News Corp. is to takeover Polsat`s Latvian investments

According to information from Latvia, Rupert Murdoch it to take a control over the LNT Latvian television station. News Corp., the company own by Murdoch, might become the main shareholder and strategic investor of the channel already in September. The biggest shares of LNT is register in Holland Polsat Media B.V. company, own by Zygmunt Solorz.

The company has 49 per cent of the LNT channel shares. The following 11 per cent, belongs to Solorz and its Polsat Baltic company.

According to Latvian newspaper Telegraf, Murdoch is driving conversations with two shareholders, which own 40 per cent of the station. Bete Company has 26 per cent and Janisa Azisa, former Bete join owner, which has 14 per cent. of the shares. But, News Corp. will probably try to get more shares.

Accordin to the Latvian Press, at the moment the transaction is finalised. Two weeks ago, News Corporation Europe vice-chairman, Mr Martin Pompadur has visited a capital of Latvia, Riga. The aim of his visit was to check the progresses in LNT share`s takeover operation. Mr. Pompadur was very satisfied from this visit.
Mr. Pompadur has officaly confirmed, that representatives of News Corp. have visited, Riga, but he has refused any further comments regard LNT whether the company expansion in to the Baltic region. The representative of the Polsat, Polish digital package and biggest commercial channel, which own 60 per cent of LNT, did not want to comment as well.

Meanwhile, the representatives of LNT have confirmed, that there is transaction with the channel shares, but further coments will be disclosed earliest in September.
