Amos 1 suffers malfunction

This morning satellite Amos 1 located at 4° West suffered serious malfunction signal strength on all transponders dropped significantly while collocated Amos 2 was unaffected. Entire HBO multiplex for central Europe was disabled which led to speculation that satellite was damaged by space junk. Owner and operator Spacecom did not issue any official information but by 13:00 CET signal was restored. Amos 1 was launched in 1996 with expected lifespan of 12 years, Amos 3 is expected to replace it in the next year.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 5 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/13E/16E /19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

Sounds more like an electrionics problem to me. Space junk damage normally puts the sat into a spin which takes many hours to sort out. Thats assuming it doesnt cause catastrophic failure as seen with AM11 at 96E last month.
