Evry, May 24, 2006. Following an equipment alert on the launch vehicle, Arianespace has decided to conduct complementary checks. Following the successful completion of these checks, Arianespace has decided to restart the final countdown for its mission with the SATMEX 6 and THAICOM 5 satellites.

Liftoff of the Ariane 5 ECA launcher is now set for the night of Saturday, May 27 at the opening of the following launch window:

>> KOUROU: From 06:09pm to 06:54pm on May 27, 2006.

>> GMT: From 09:09pm to 09:54pm on May 27, 2006.

Follow the launch live on the internet: http://www.videocorner.tv/index.php?langue=en

(Starting 20 minutes before lift-off).

Video streaming will be available in RealMedia and WindowsMedia formats.

Sadly, I wouldnt expect full coverage of this one to appear on any of the main birds above Europe, but if anyone spots coverage please post details! Euronews will *probably* take the lift off - they take most of the Ariane launches

A record-setting Ariane 5 moves to the launch zone

Preparations for Arianespace's dual-satellite Ariane 5 mission shifted to the launch zone today as the completed heavy-lift vehicle was rolled out at Europe's Spaceport in French Guiana.

Riding atop its massive launch table, Ariane 5 emerged from the Spaceport's Final Assembly Building at 10:45 a.m. (local time in French Guiana), and covered the 2.5 km. distance to the ELA-3 launch zone in one hour.

In the photo, Ariane 5 approaches its final position at the ELA-3 complex's fixed tower (which is painted white with the red stripe), where the launch table will locked into position over the massive flame trenches. The dual rail system that links the Final Assembly Building (visible near the horizon in the background) with the launch zone is evident in this photograph, including the curved section of track that leads into the ELA-3 facility.

The final countdown will begin at 11 hr. 30 minutes before tomorrow's launch, which remains on schedule for a liftoff at 6:09 p.m. local time in French Guiana (21h09 GMT, 04:09 p.m. in Mexico City, 11:09 p.m. in Paris and 4:09 a.m. on May 28 in Bangkok).

This Ariane 5 flight carries another record-setting payload mass for a mission to geostationary transfer orbit, with the Thaicom 5 and Satmex 6 satellites' combined weight totaling nearly 8,200 kg.

Assuming the launch is successful it normally takes a couple of months to geta satellite into geostatonary orbit, checked out and ready to enter service. So you are looking at August at the very earliest

Both satellites safely delivered to transfer orbit. A perfect flight. Thaicom is going to 78.5E, Satmex to 109.2W
