Satellite pictures of last week's record-breaking heatwave show the country heating up and a simultaneous increase in air pollution in Britain's major cities, according to climate scientists at the University of Leicester.
Stable atmospheric conditions allowed temperatures to rise between July 15 and July 19 to a new July record of 36.5C (97.7F) at Wisley in Surrey. The same conditions also made for a massive build up of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.
