Premiere League panic

Chairmen of the UK's Premiere League held crisis talks yesterday as they come to terms with the European Commission's determination to undo its deal with BSkyB.

The Commission has said it wants Sky to sublicense one of the four programme packages, Sky says in return it must cut the E1.4 billion it agreed to pay to the League. The League is now trying to open negotiations direct with the Commission and is hoping to keep the deal intact arguing that a number of clubs will go bankrupt if the Sky payments are reduced.
