No need to stop getting the cards, as they do six month versions.

Oh yes, of course you could do that. Still, if you haven't a system it's alot of fuss for 6 months.

My System: Technomate 7755 2va2ci Arabesque art card Hotbird 13E

First time post here, but very pissed off. Have ART sport on 13 east.
Maybe I am looking at things simply here, but would like your views.

Ok, at the moment ART is on Hotbird 13 east AND Nilesat 7 West; Showtime is on Nilesat 7 West. SO, and it's a big SO, dont many (and it would be interesting to see figures) subscribers to ART in the middle east etc (ie, the area it should be picked up in) have dishes pointing to Hotbird?? Wont this piss off maybe 1000's of people who will have to have dishes reset in that region?

Would that not be like SKY not winning the next rights and some operator then transmiting from a dish other than Astra 28.2, then saying tough. Would loose so many subscribers, and as such, MONEY.

As I say, maybe my view is a bit simple, but wont showtime HAVE to transmit on Hotbird to keep existing subscribers, who will just have to switch cards next season?

If anyone could possibly email showtime and ask if they have an intention to do so, or not, I think this would be a great help to us all.

Thanks

LOL, I think you'll find that the only reason Showtime got the package in preference to ART is because they don't transmit on Hotbird, so will be unlikely to start next year.

The transmission of ART on 13E is aimed at the European market, not the mddle East and North Africa and at the end of the day, that will be Art's problem, not Showtime's.

Of course this doesn't guarantee that ART will have no matches at all, just makes it improbable.

If they've bought a similar package to that which ART have at present, then I guess that the coverage will be similar.
Thats my point there is nothing to suggest they have a the same package as ART. All we know is that they have won EPL live matches. The EXACT content of which is still unclear.

ESPN and Star that cover Asia only show 1 -2 live games at 3pm. TPS only showed 1. Supersport Africa (I think) are the only ones who match ART for the number of live games shown simultaneously in English.

I wouldn't be surprised if dropping english commentary was a condition of the winning bid. Also at the moment they dont have enough sport channels to cover more games unless they breakup general or premium programming. Or buy some more space for a few extra sports channels. But given that it took ART considerable time to secure space on hotbird and get the chanels operational, and al jazeera news has still to get off the ground, they will need to move mountains to cover the amount of EPL that ART currently cover.

Anyway plenty of time to find out the content of exactly what they have won and what they have the capacity to show.................. as I said ...........time will tell

No I disagree, reading between the lines there is everything to suggest that they will considerably up their game and increase their transponder options, from their point of view, it is probably a major coup.

But as we have said earlier, this is next year we are talking about, so no need for anyone to panic.

Not using any sites, but I have seen 6 month cards available, in fact that's probably all that will be available after current 12 month stocks run out.

Arabisque package cards (known as ART on Hotbird) is forbiden in Middle East and Gulf countries (except Morocco and Algeria) , this package is aimed at "Arabs" in Europe
as for M.E , we only have 7W subs , known as Al Awael , with different offers (starting from 3quid/month)
so the EPL move to STA means nothing to the common people (who doesnt have ART or ST cards) , simply coz both not hacked , and they are expensive packs
there was a sport channel called "Showtime Sport" couple of years back , they could simply resurct it (or somethin similar) if they really in it for footy , i personally like to see a hostile fight between the 2 packages , improving sports material in STA is an excellent decision , ART is doing alot of damage to STA even though they have contracts and common interests !

How hard/ expensive is it to Canal+ Nordic as they also have EPL rights?

How will this affect Champions League matches? ART showed most of the matches live each week. Will Showtime pick them up too? Is there somewhere else on 7w that has the scope of CL coverage that ART had?

I've spend the last couple of hours looking at the other broadcasters to see whether there really are alternatives, but to be honest, nothing comes close to ART, not even DigitALB or Nova, in terms of overall coverage and price.

Sorry to make everyone feel thoroughly depressed.

I have just ordered an Art card from marconi digital on Ebay, i think people will find the prices have already reduced and theres still 30 games of the season left, per team, just paid £70 for a 12 month card, bargain in my opinion, considering the amount of EPL or sports in general you will be getting!

So it looks like paying double - once for ART to keep getting the CL and once to Showtime for the Premiership! Booooo!

Multichoice Africa gives as good coverage of the EPL (if not better) and covers some champions league. However can't compete with ART on price.

Hopefully the grey market price will come down if this package increases in out of area. Currently costs about £50 per month on the grey market but retails significantly cheaper in Africa.

Multichoice Africa - that's the Supersport channels isn't it? I can get it in the Middle East, but what direction is it from here? How do I get a card for it and do I need a CAM. I currently am pointed 7w for ART and I am using an Irdeto CAM.

SuperSports on the MultiChoice Africa package on 68E is beaming into Southern Africa Theres no chance of you getting it in the Middle East.

Its also on 36E and is also on an African beam.

My System: Dreambox DM7025 + 90cm Fibo Dish with Moteck SG2100A mod + Inverto White 0.3dB lnb + 55cm Philips Gregorian + Stab HH-120 + modded BGSat 0.3dB lnb

Got myself a 6 month ART card to take me up to the end of the season but it's doubtful that I'll be getting showtime next season as there is no hope in hell of getting planning permission for a 1.8m dish where I live, plus once I've factored in the the cost of the dish, lnb, a mount/motor, and sub, it just ain't worth it, even if they show every game live.

So it's back to feeds/fta channels only for me - won't get a sub to sly coz I don't like the idea of staying up late to watch extended highlights of already finished games, and they just don't enough live games for my liking.

I may consider getting a digitalb sub, but it will only be worth it if my team get back into the premiership this year and digitalb deem their games worth broadcasting. Last year, I often went whole months without seeing my team play on telly, because ART preferred to show the big teams on their main 4 channels and my team were often on 5 and 6 if they were shown at all.

So the only winner out of all this is my wife, who will have more money to spend on clothes and makeup, and more time to nag me about getting the all the diy done
