BSkyB in board shake up

BSkyB is planning a boardroom shake-up that will include cuts in the number of non-executive directors and an increase in the number of executives on the board.

Investors had complained that BSkyB's board is unbalanced by having 11 non-executives, eight of whom are regarded as not independent because of their links with Rupert Murdoch's parent company, News Corp. Allan Leighton, senior non-executive Director, confirmed that changes are expected soon.

Leighton has also suggested that at least one more executive Director will join the board alongside 30-year CEO old James Murdoch and Finance Director Martin Stewart.

BSkyB is the only major British PLC with just two full-time executives and Leighton has told investors that a review of corporate governance will result in a 'more normal company board structure'.
