Internal crisis in Spain's Digital Plus

Spain's single digital satellite platform, Digital Plus, is facing its first internal crisis. Differences over management of the company with the CEO, Javier Diez de Polanco, has forced Jose Manuel Lorenzo, General Director of terrestrial pay-TV channel Canal Plus and Director of Contents at Digital Plus, to resign.

Disagreeements between them had built since the merger between Sogecable-owned Canal Satelite Digital and Telefonica-controlled Via Digital. Carlos Abad, General Director of Sogecable, right-hand-man of Javier Diez de Polanco, will now be responsible for Contents at the platform

This crisis takes place soon after the Government has decided to freeze Digital Plus fees again this year in a new setback to the company's plans to reach break even in 2005.
