No its not on fire!

Staying with the railway theme this caused me much hilarity whilst I was visiting the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley during Easter 2005. The engineeres were having problems getting this loco started. When it eventually fired up, it covered the whole site in dense clouds of smelly, oily, diesel exhaust. I heard some very bad words from the folks wandering around the yard just out of shot to the left who disappered into the smog...

If it were me who took that picture, I'd be in the engine figuring out how to fire her up and move her along the line, just for the hell of it...

Hmm, few wires here, a battery or two there, tank o' diesel and I think it'd run, all the levers look intact, but there's no gagues left...

I'd just have fun fiddling with what's left, and probably having a go at pushing it along the line....

Nice collection of trains there!!! There's more trains there than on the local line from here to Blackpool!!!

One thing I've always wanted to do since I was a kid though is to have a couple of retired train carriages (the more recent types, not the old ones with the little rooms!!! ) and convert them into a long house...

And if I had the money I'd build a length of track (probably narrow-gague) and pop an engine on it to just trundle about on it just for fun...

Ive always had a soft spot for small engines - and on dozens of visits to preserved railways over the years photod whatever was around. Having discovered that website I was in seventh heaven when I found I could submit my photos!. There will be a few dozen more pics on there when Ive had my easter break in Derbyshire!

The photos stretch from South Wales to Orkney and from the early 1990's right through to recent

Well done if you find me - Im on at least 2 of the photos....!

I just like Trains as they are (and I'm terrible for watching Fred Dibnah's stuff on UKTV History!!!), and I'm very interested in the local group known as SELRAP who are trying to get the line between Skipton and Colne rebuilt and re-opened, and I wanted to be on a one-off Colne to Skipton journey, going the long way round, on the 1st of April, but I didn't have enough money for the tickets...

This is Killhope Mining Museum in Weardale in the North Pennines. A lovely tranquil area now, but once the heart of the lead mining industry. The wheel has been restored and turns.

Just think how much free electricity could be generated by that wheel if the stuck a generator & gearbox on the axle!!!

A lot - its connected to some huge wooden buddle separators in that shed. The wheel could drive all of these wooden boxes up and down using that one massive drivebelt along the back wall (if they were all finished anyway)

I like the spirals on this one. Its a disused wireless tower next to an Icelandic lighthouse. Its one of two on the site which obviously used to carry a dipole antenna strung between them
