Is 720p/1080i/1080p the same every where??

So obviously the trasport protocols for broadcast HDTV is different in various regions of the world (e.g. DVB-T vs. ATSC). However, I assume that the 720p/1080i/1080p formats work regardless of region. So if you bought a Blueray player in the U.K. that outputs 1080p, you could easily hook it up to an HDTV purchased in the states. Provided of course you have the right power supply (110/220) and use the right connector (HDMI)?
