Fortec Passion stuck in Standby - duff remote

OK, so having set up my Fortec Passion+ (from Maplins) and got everything just right I decide to program the remote for my TV.
I pu the Passion into standby and did the 'Press OK and device button (TV)' and go through the available Panasonic codes. None of the codes worked but that's OK. Try to switch the passion back on but the Remote is in TV mode. Pressing the STB button does not switch it (the remote) to STB mode. I can switch between DVD TV and VCR (you can tell by which light s up whe you press it or a channel button) but it won't go back to STB mode.

Two questions -
1) does anyone know how to switch the remote back to STB
2) how can I power up the passion so it stays on as it remembers it's in standby and goes straight to sleep on power on (by the switch on the Passiopn itself).
