My System: 80cm dish with three LNB's pointed at Astra 1, 2 and Hotbird |
Hi, I have a dish set up receiving three Satellites, Astra 1, 2 and Hotbird. Now I want to add a receiver which will receive all the channels from all three sats, and be able to receive TNT as well, which is, I think, Viaccess 3. I may also wish to add Canal+ later which is also Viaccess 3. The TNT recommendation is the STRONG STR 6420, but I do not know if it will do all the above, and I am pretty sure it has only one Viaccess card reader. Since I am strictly a newbie can someone suggest what I should look into? Many thanks Andrew

My System: Satellite Dish 1.6m Hotbird 13E, DreamBox 7000S with Gemini 4.5.0; Dish 1.2m Amos 4W, Nokia 9600S; Nokia 9800S; Hauppauge Nexus-S PCI Card ![]() He battled for 3 days against the Tux and won! Hurray!! | Have you considered the DreamBox 7025S? You can have two different tuners, one for satellite DVB-S and the other for terrestrial DVB-T. I think that it has a CI slot and also a card reader so that should take care of the official smartcards. Also add internal HDD for recording. Selection of satellite channels would be accomplished by using a Diseq switch.

My System: TM6800HD+TD110+StabHH90 motor,TM1000D+Orbital 1m Multifeed 16E,23E,28E.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox. | What you want to do is is almost impossible. There are over 10 different packages on those three sats using a variety of encryption systems. Some of them also requiring a dedicated receiver. The Dreambox/linux receivers may work with a fair few of the offical provider cards, but maybe not all of them though. I suggest you do a lot of digging, to establish which packages you really want and find out if any specific hardware is needed, or whether a hardware CAM or Dreambox can be used.

Hurray!! | Sorry Robbo, but I think that the O/P is interested only in the TNT package and/or the French Canal+, unless he really means ALL the encrypted channels and not only FTA. So basically two card readers should be enough.

My System: 80cm dish with three LNB's pointed at Astra 1, 2 and Hotbird | The ads refer to "2 x Smartcard-Reader" is this the same as a Viaccess card reader, or perhaps all the readers are the same? Sorry for my ignorance, but I will learn. Andrew

Hurray!! | There should also be a mention of CI CAM slot, where you insert a PCMCIA module like Viaccess and then insert the official smartcard inside it. You then need to select the type of cam from a dropdown list. I suggest that you download the 7025 user manual and specification sheet and go over all the details. Good Luck

I had a closer look at the Strong SRT 6420 and it looks like a cheaper option for you with a price tag of 149 Euro or less. It has only one embedded Viaccess CAM, but will give you TNT sub for 4 years. You can buy 2 receivers (for the second CI slot) and it is still a cheaper option than 7025. But check if the remotes can be set so as not to activate one another.
