My System: Nothing Yet!!
New setup, help needed.

So after deciding on getting a plasma TV i have decided that it was time to get HD content. I currently have a Thomson PVR (DHD4000) which has been excellent and has been a godsend.

Now i have been waiting for the new Humax freesat PVR to be released but stumbled across this forum and have now had my eyes opened up! What i need to know is what i need to be able to start watching HD content via satellite, i'd love a recommendation of a receiver that can record like my Thomson, is it possible yet? I'd like to be able to pick up the football so would need to know how i would go about that.

Complete newbie here so nothing can be over explained! I'm an electrician so would be doing the install myself.

Thanks Neil

There are a few HD receivers available but not a lot reports on which are the best at the moment.
I would start with your dish, and motor, first and work your way from there.
What size dish are you thinking of?
You are allowed to install a dish of up to 1 Metre without the need for planning permission and a 1 Metre motorized dish would give you access to a lot of satellites.
You really need to install your dish in a South facing direction and if possible have a clear line of sight 45 degrees East and West of South.
If you look at where a S*y dish is pointing, 28.2 degrees East, and move 28.2 degrees to your left, when facing the dish, this will roughly give you Souts, you can then work out where you would need to situate your dish, if you're lucky you can install it on the ground mount, in your back garden, but most of us have to have it installed on a wall mount.
If you do not want a motorized set up you can go for a fixed dish with multiple LNB's to give you a few satellites like 19E, 16E, 13E etc., but you get more options with a motorized set up.
Have a read through the forum, especially the sticky threads in the Dish Set Up section:
http://www.satellites.co.uk/satellit...rised-systems/
and then post back with more information on what you require.
Once you start in this hobby you'll soon get hooked !!!!!

I'll be going for as big a dish as possible so more than likely a 1M dish. It'll be motorized too. What is concerning me is the receiver! So much to choose, i like the Vantage 8000s but it is pricey. I need it to be twin tuners, i went into a local sat shop and they recommend the technomate, its cheaper at £300 but is it as good?
