Question DigitalB Setup from scratch - Please Help

Hi,

I am looking to install a satellite system in order to watch EPL on DigitalB. I'm a total newcomer and I have becom very confused.

Could somebody please tell me exactly what I need to buy??

What size dish will I need for DigitalB? (I live near Oxford)
What kind of receiver do I need to buy, and do I have to buy a receiver and a CAM? Does a CAM plug into the receiver?

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

My System: Sky; Raven 90 with LNBs for 1W, 7E, 13E 16E and 19E; Technomate 1500 and Kathrein Analogue Receivers

Hi Kristian

Since you are sure you want Digitalb, then in Oxford you need:

- a 1m dish; and
- a receiver that can read the Digitalb card; for example the new Technomate 5400 Super; with this receiver, you will not need a separate CAM to watch Digialb.

It is actually advisable that you buy a diseqc motor to go with the dish and widen your viewing options and your chances of seeing more footie.

PS I am assuming you know that DigiAlb is ordinarily a subscription package.

My System: 43cm Dish, Sky Plus v2, Thomson DSI4214, FRACARRO PENTA 85cm, Invacom Twin, Moteck SG2100a H-H DiSEqC Motor, TF5000CI, TM-5200D, Sling Media, Rover Discovery ST-4, Rover SDM-1s, 57E to 58W, Tecatel 1.35m fixed on 28e, Pace D5430-N

I would of thought you'd get away with a good 80cm for W2 in Oxford.
A Penta 85cm would almost certainly do the job

You might also want to look at Tring, a new package on 16E, which currently has the rights to the Champions League games, and could show English Premier League games in the future.
Personally I wouldn't limit myself to a fixed dish when a motor is relatively cheap to fit.
A motorized Penta 85cm dish will give you a lot more viewing options.

My System: No set up as yet.

Hi

Thanks for all the advice.

I've been looking on Ebay and found 85cm penta is about £50, I would then need to buy a motor as it would appear you cannot buy them already motorized?
Does it matter what kind of motor I buy or will the cheapest be ok?

Also, I have found the Technomate 5400 Super for sale at around £90; however, patched receivers are advertised at £100. Would the latter greatly increase my viewing options and would it be a worthwhile purchase as I am mostly interested in being able to watch the football?

Finally, is Digitalb the only feasible option for epl? The above posts seem to suggest there are reasonable alternatives (I don't want to pay £500+ p/a).

Any help would be much appreciated.

also, it says the penta 85cm is "pole mounted". Does that mean I'll have a 16ft pole in my back garden?

You could have a pole in your garden if you wanted, but not necessarily 16ft, mine is only about 6ft high.

The easiest method however, if you read the stickys, is to get a pair of T&K brackets and a bit of pole, and mount the motor on that.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Most dishes are pole mounts, see the sticky threads in the dish setup section on motor installations. Setup Guide for DiseqC motor - Pictorial

Have a look at our site supporting advertisers for equipment, between them they have some of the most competitive prices on the net.

For Fracarro dishes, see High Definition, via the link in my signature for Forum advertisers.

Don't pay any more for a patched receiver, as you can do this yourself and in fact will need to from time to time, so you may as well start off and learn how to do it.
