Thanks.

I want a Sat system that will pick up more HD channels than I currently get through cable. I have the following questions
  • Should I get a motorised dish or twin LNB?
Can a motorised dish pick up most sats?
What size dish will I need? (Bolton area)
Can I install it myself? Is it easy?
    Where should I buy from?
Can a Sky dish be used? (I dont have one)
Can I discuss free sat footi in this thread?
How much would all this cost?
I dont really need PVR or multi room

Thanks so far

Ok,

1. Motorised is the most flexible option and will give you the greatest possible choice for the least money.

2. No, It can only pisck up the sats that are above the horizon and that the dish is big enough for.Which is still loads.

3. You can have what size you want, the bigger the better, planning permission is not needed up to 1m in most cases.

4. Some find it hard some find it easy, it depends on the person and circumstances of the installation. Have a read of the sticky guides in this section.

5. Yes a Sky dish can be used, but they are small, and not much point really, if you don't have one already.

6. I think there is a footy section.

7.A couple of hundred or thereabouts for a basic setup with an SD box.

Maybe a couple of hundred more with a HD box instead, it depends which one.

Thanks,

HD Motorized it is then

Does it take ages to change the channel when it has to shift sats?
Do I need a Cam socket?
Can anybody recommend me a complete system?

Some motors are faster than others. It also depends which sats you are changing between obviously. Flicking between the main eastern sats does not take much time at all. It is also faster when the transponder is horizontal.

Have a look at the site sponsors, one of them will do a complete kit, check my sig.

For an easy to use system I would suggest a kit with the TM6800 or TM6900, because of its ease of use, but do your research first.

Yes to keep your options open, it is best to go with a receiver with a CI slot.
