OK... Let me try and run this past you guys...

I have a octo LNB on a minidish @ 28.2 for my nan. She has a Sky+ PVR (downstairs), a FTA HD box (downstairs), a FTA reciver in the kitchen (downstairs) and a FTA Reciver in her room (upstairs)

Now when I plug in the FTA Reciver in her room it adds a ton of static and causes the signal to drop serverly on all recivers. I get shocked whenever I go near the LNB, F Connectors, Recivers and even put my hand near it.

I have swapped the reciver in her room twice with two differnt models (both earthed) and it still does it.

When I unplug that reciver I can touch whatever and not get shocked. Could it be possible that the electicty upstairs is effecting this reciver or is it something I'm not seeing?

Thanks

sounds like floating ground

hello from italy,
it sounds you have a floating ground problem in one receiver.
if you can unplug from the mains one at a time it will isolate which one is causing the problem.
in italy we can pull the mains plug and flip the mains and plug it back in.
in the uk you can not,but you have a 3 prong plug ,one is ground
one is hot the other nutral.
in effect you are flipping the hot and nutral (never the ground).
sometines americans use transformers and when they plug it in this pops the braker.
they plug it in alwars one way afrer marking the plug and no more poping the barker.
if you are geting zaped tuching the lnb you have a floating ground for sure.
if you isolate the receiver and rewire the mains plug that should reslove the problem
try that

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

How have you earthed it?

All the receivers I have seen, dont't have an earth on the mains plug.

Just to add, if it WAS earthed properly, it would be impossible to get a tingle off it.

Well I earthed it in the plug, it had the top pin earthed so therefore was actualy earthed, its all the OTHER recivers that shocked me rarther than that one which is what doesnt make sense

I agree with Robbo. Receivers usually have just the live and neutral and no earth wire. If you have a digital meter, measure between earth and neutral on the plug, you should have a reading of 0v anything above 10v ac means wiring problem either with the earth or Neutral. If the reading is 0v measure between neutral from bedroom and another neutral point where there is a box connected. Again if you get a reading means that the neutrals are not on the same neutral bus in the distribution board. To fix this just take the neutral wire from the bedroom and join it to the same neutral bus as the others. After doing this make sure to measure between Live and neutral in the bedroom making sure you still have the correct voltage.

I hope this helps

earth problem

hi,
if you have a 4 output lnb since the casting should be earthed.
and the dish is outside one could run a length of coper wire from the outer part of the f connector to the water fauset if the pipes are metal and not pvc.
since all the receivers are connected by the tuners they should be ground.
one could measure the outer part of the tuners were the coax is connected and measure the voltage.
it is probally 30v ac and is enough to give you a bite and can be causing the problem.
if you measure this from the outer part of the f connector that is on the satellite receiver tuner with respect to ground and find 30 v ac when you ground one all the others should go to ground as well.
because the outer braid of the coax cable are all tied togeather at the LNB.
let us know what you find

Hi thanks for all the help but I had to just change the LNB and remove the upstairs decoder. I wasnt going to risk getting shocked again for the sake of something that is very rarely watched

If you find a problem like that, it's really a good idea to get to the bottom of it. It sounds as though it was elsewhere and could be developing into a bigger problem... worse case scenario... electrical fire, serous electric shock (worse if you are older) and a constant risk of damage to other electrical devices connected (TVs DVDs Video player, other sat boxes etc...) and any of which can develop another fault .. I've seen it happen...

Good advice... get someone qualified in.
