| Hi, has anyone on this forum had any experience of fixing faults on this box? My young colleague has managed to blow his up by connecting some sort of steerable dish (Diseq 1.2) directly to the LNB 'F' socket. This is marked 400mA max! I've checked all the voltages coming out of the PSU. All are present but most, apart from the 5V, are above the voltage suggested by the markings on the PCB i.e. 3V runs at about 5.5V, 8V runs at 11V etc. The PowerPC CPU chip gets slightly warm after a few minutes powered on (indicated by a green LED on the front panel). Connecting a TV to the SCART socket produces a blank screen but the control voltages are present 'cos if I connect via another device when the 808 is powered off the other device has control of the signal path. With power apparently on I can measure 5V on pin 14 of one of the 74HC00 chips but without a circuit diagram I'm stabbing in the dark! No buttons on the remote produce any response - zilch! Not even the power button. Before i suggest he chucks it in the nearest skip can anyone help? Cheers Smudge | ||

| 400mA is about par for the course for a DiSEqC Motor capable Box. Such Motors consume around 6W and I'm surprised that connecting one up has blown the Box. But, as for advising about repair, I'm afraid I can't help. eg Motek Motor Power Consumption Spec: Standby 50mA Normal 200mA (13v) Max 350mA (18v) So, it wasn't unreasonable for your young friend to do what he did! | ||

| Hi RaiUno I was being rather slack in my interpretation of the events leading up to the demise of the box. When he had a fixed dish there had been no problem and the box had run for about 2 years. As soon as he had his dish upgraded to a steerable variety, the box threw in the towel! Cheers Smudge | ||
