Monoblock LNB to S*Y dish ?

Hi , i was wondering how easy it is to fit a monoblock LNB (ASTRA & HOTBIRD) TO MY EXISTING S*Y DISH ? Any help apreciated ...

Monobloc LNb's are designed and optimised for spacing on an 80cm dish,.. although it's achievable on a Zone2.

Best advice would be to install the mono onto a new dish 60cm - 80cm.

It's certainly possible on an old "SkyAnalogue" Dish, but I've seen reports from those attempting to use the Zone 2 "SkyDigital" Dishes that total success is harder to achieve.

The squished shape of those Dishes means that the off centre Port of the Monoblock doesn't see enough of the Dish.

Best to use a "proper" Dish (Height slightly greater than width) of 60cm or more.

Oh, and even if you did use the existing SkyDish, you'd lose 28E as it would need to be re-aligned to either 13E or 19.2E.

Thanks for that. So i was thinking should i just go the full hog and get a complete new motorised set up ? if so any advice on which kind/make?

Good size Dish for general purpose use would be 80-90cm. Orbital 80cm, Triax TD88 for example. 0.3dB or less (claimed!) LNB.

Add a DiSEqC Motor (they are all as good/bad as each other).

Decent brackets (12" T&K), U or V bolts, Wall bolts, Cable and F connectors

Around £120 the lot, plus whatever your Receiver of choice may be.

There are "packages" available from Fleabay and from this Site's sponsoring Suppliers, but often the quality of the Dishes is suspect if you do that. Best to think about it, come back with a specific proposal and we'll either torpedo it or give it the thumbs up.

Can I just second what Rai has said. Having bought and set up my motorised system at the end of last year, I quickly found that the 'cheap and cheerful' option of a locally bought 60cm dish (actually a bit smaller overall than a 60cm S*Y dish) wasn't going to be that successful.

I have recently ordered a Triax 88. I would say that if you can afford it and you can put it on your wall without too much hassle, go for a larger, well engineered dish. Anything else may be dissapointing. I'm deliberately not going any larger than 90cm as I don't want to overstrain the motor. Good luck with everything!!

Thanks for that, i'm definately going for the Triax 88, and maybe the Megasat 0.1dB Quad LNB, as for the motor and wall bracket still not sure !! As before any advice welcomed

Hi,

Just from my personal experience, my Technomate 2200 hasn't budged in the high winds we have had recently, and this morning during squally hailshowers and a sonic boom from passing French jet fighters! The Triax arrived this morning but not even attempting to mount it while the wind is this strong!!

If anyone did try a monoblock on a z1 $ky dish you would get about a 20-22 degree split, low signals and miles off a 13e/19.2e 6 degree split on an 80... the skew would also be very out on one ...

You can add a 2nd lnb and get it to work but even that would mean a minimum of a 15 degree split (28e / 13e etc..) and only on very strong satellites with a % of signal loss ..unless you did some serious engineering.

Hi, I was reading this forum and I belived that the questions asked are very similar to the ones that I have about tha satellite dish that I would like to instal in south east UK.
I have already a sky dish, fitted by a sky engineer some time ago, (I think 28E) complete with its LNB.
There in close proximity is a larger 80cm dish without its LNB. The dish is installed to receive either hotbird astra satellite (it looks that ti points more to the east when compared to the skydish). The only weird part is that the dish is installed with its larger diameter (80cm) vertical and its smaller diameter (70cm) horizontal (elliptic dish). Is that a problem?
What I would like to do is to fit a 6 degree LNB block with built in Diseqc switch for both astra 9E and hotbird 13E satellite. Firstly, does the way that the dish is installed will crate a problem?
Secondly, how can I combine both dishes (large 80cm) and the sky dish and take a single feed to the decoder?
Are the LNB for the hotbird, astra and freesat (astra2) the same? Can I see freesat from the Astra satellite
I plan to purchase a technomate TM super 1500. Will that be OK for all hotbird, astra and freesat (Astra 2 - 28E) channels?

The second dish you describe is just a standard offset dish, so providing you can find an offset bracket for it, you could install three LNBs on it for Astra 28.2, Astra 19.2 and Hotbird 13 degrees, or of course you can fit a monobloc for Hotbird and Astra.

The Technomate would be fine for all the free to air channels.

What I had in my mind was to fit a monoblock with 1 output and with an internal DiSEqC for the ASTRA and the HotBird and then take the cable to a second DiSEqc switch. Furthermore connect the sky LNB to the second DiSEqC switch and bring one feed into the TM1500. Will that work?

Might do, there are posts on the forum about stacking DiSEqC switches, worth a try if the Technomate will allow complex DiSEqC commands.
