Fortec Star- scanning problem

Hi, This is my first post, I have to confess to being a complete newbie to satelite tv. I have a fortic star passion HD receiver and 60 cm dish. I'm very impressed with quality of reception from Astra 2 free sat. I have a question, I previously had an older, pre free sat, fortic star digital receiver, Lifetime II, this gives good results on some channels on the same dish but I am unable to get all the channels that the new HD receiver gets. As both boxes work off the same dish, I assume they are receiving the same satelite, (Astra 2), so is there any way I can get the older box to receive all the free sat channels? I apologise if this is posted in the wrong place or if it is too dumb.
John.

Don't worry - I'm sure a Mod will shift it! And Welcome to the Forum

Anyway, you just need to update your Fortec Star's 28E Transponder list.

If it is the same model as my Wife's Rx, it has Network Scan, which should take a lot of the work out of it. Try enabling that first.

If it brings up all the stuff you want, fine. It isn't a true Blind (or Auto) Scan, but will add in all Transponders used by BSkyB (which includes all the FTA Channels anyway).

But if it doesn't, manually correlate (Add, Edit or Delete) your stored Transponder list with these

_http://www.flysat.com/28east.php

Then scan.

Great fun keeping older Receivers up to date! Not.

Edit: If that Rx is newer than ours, it might actually have Blind/Auto Search/Scan .................. If so, job done! Obviously you'll only get the Standard Definition Channels, but that's 98.7365% of the total.

Hi Rai Uno, Thank you so much for your prompt and informative reply. I had done a channel scan many times but did not know about the transponder scan or blind scan. Luckily there was a blind scan and I now have all the channels I wanted - thanks again!
The reason I wanted to get this box going is because I have a holiday home in Brittany France and I still have the old analogue dish - perhaps you might know one other thing - assuming the fixing is the same, can I put a digital LNB on the old analogue dish or do I need a new dish as well.
Many thanks - I really appreciate your help.
Regards,
John.

Eeeh, that's champion!

Obviously a later model than my Wife's box (Actually, I wonder if Wives can be updated too ................ )

As for the old Dish, it'll probably have a 40mm collar mount (My "pig-sty" Analogue Dish has), so any cheapo Universal LNB should fit quite happily.

Don't forget to ensure the Dish is aligned to the right Satellite cluster - Analogue was 19.2E.

Mods: Thanks for creating the separate Thread.

Thanks again for your suggestions Rai Uno, I'll try a digi LNB when I next go over but not sure if I am brave enough to update the wife - yet!
Regards, John.
