My System: pace analogue reciever
Question German Channels - Best Option Analogue or Digital?

Our kids watch German TV on an Analogue System that works OK but with a fair amount of snow on the screen on some channels.
We are about to get a new TV antenna fitted and so we were wondering whether:
1 We should switch to a digital receiver?
2 We should get a larger dish?
3 We should stay as we are?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Welcome,

Switching over to digital would definitely be a wise move and you'll gain a mass of extra channels. Dish size for Astra1 - 60cm.

Take a look here for a list of German channels on Astra1 in DVB:

Hi,

It depends which channels you like to watch in particular I think.

But in any event the day will come when all the satellite analogue broadcasts are switched off, so you won't have a choice anyway. It has already happened to the few remaining Polish channels on Hotbird.

To switch to digital, it will be a simple matter of swapping the LNB for a modern Universal one (If you don't have on already) and getting yourself a FTA digital satellite box (around £50).

Here is a list of all the channels you would get from 19E

Thanks for the advice.
I assume a bigger dish will give better signal?
Any advice on best Receiver? We had a Humax Fox Freeview box that was good.

Yes, a larger dish will always give a better signal.

For receiving German FTA channels on digital satellite, it doesn't really matter too much what you get. Any of the FTA digital sat receivers will do the job. I tend to only use/intstall Technomates or Clarke Techs myself, and that is the receiver of choice for a large proportion that I see.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

Definitely time to upgrade - we are expecting at least 25 of the analogue channels on 19E to shut down in 2010

There will be a long list of receivers to choose from.
