My System: Dreambox 7020Si receiver, PLi image loaded and Irdeto and Viaccess cards installed. Dishes for Nilesat + Hotbird with lnb's for BADR and Eurobird 9
Receiving 13E and 9E on the same dish??

I receive Hotbird at 13E with a 120cm dish, and the signal is flaky in rain conditions. I have already upgraded the dish from the 90cm originally installed.

BBC Prime is moving to Eurobird at 9E so I now need to receive from there as well. Can I do it with a single dish??

Checking Lyngsat, I am on the 44db contour for both birds.

Thanks

Hi,

Single dish, a multi-bracket and offset LNb should do these two satellites.

If you are going to make any changes to the dish setup, I would highly recommend considering additional LNB for Astra 1M on 19.2E.
It has a wide band footprint which covers the Middle East.
Even with 120cm dish, this should be possible.
Astra 1M on air. Any distant reports?

My letter to the BBC on the subject of the move.

I am very disappointed by the decision to move the BBC Prime signal to Eurobird 9.

Just re-point my attenna, you say.

It is not that simple.

Do you really think that the BBC Prime channel is the only one I watch??

If I want to continue viewing BBC World News, I will have to invest in a second dish, or at the very least a second lnb. The dual lnb option may not be possible as reception is already marginal in rain conditions, with a 120cm dish, as I am on the 44db contour of both satellites.

Don't you think it is time that the BBC had an integrated policy for its international viewers??

13E and 9E are indeed possible on a single dish, however since your reception on 13E is patchy during rain, the added 9E LNB will probably have problems too in the rain, especially if its not at the focus. You may have to compromise and focus half way between the two.

Motorising the dish is another option of course.

Did the BBC gurus think of such problems??

Like the debacle 15 years ago when BBC moved from Asiasat to a bird over India, and only half a transponder at that(analogue days).

Over night SE Asia lost the BBC signal.
The bods at BBC had no idea what chaos they had created.

Nor did they care.
The man in charge did not even know how to use his e-mail address.

I think that the move is probably because the lease prices on 9E is a lot cheaper than on Hot Bird 13E.
What is worrying is the fact that the quality of BBC Prime now is quite high and there is no guarantee that they would keep the same quality on 9E.
But look at the bright side, you don't lose a channel, you gain a whole new satellite.
And there are talks that there might be few more BBC channels coming up like what they have now from Poland like BBC Entertainment, etc. hopefully in the same subscription (DTH).

Yes 9E is a new bird to monitor, but not an impressive list of channels.

I wish I share your faith in the Beeb........
Knowing those people if they do intorduce new channels they will be a different bird again.
