My System: 1.2 MOTORISED DISH
HELP!!! 1W install in Cannes, South France......

Hi,

Ive recentley installed a 1.8m dish in Cannes for 1w Thor. I seem to get a great signal on the vertical polarity but not so good on the horizontal.

Just need to know if this is normal in this part of the world?

Please help!!! ;-)

Mark.

My System: FTA receiver

Which beam(s) are you trying to receive?
Google for "lyngsat.com/1west.html" and click on the various coverage maps for each specific beam, e.g. T1, T2, Nordic, spot 3.
According to the map, beam T1 coverage stops around central France, so perhaps you're simply too far away for T1, despite your 1.8-m dish. You may able to receive some stations via the Nordic beam, though here too it is just outside the coverage. Still, the spot 3 and T2 beams should be quite strong in your area.

Well that would make sense......

I thought that may be the case, although as its my first time over that part of the world for work, i did check dish sizes etc, but didnt consider the footprint.

I guess my client will have to settle for whats available.....

Many thanks for your expert advise!

My System: None at the moment

I get all channels on Thor with a 120cm Andrew in Cannes so there is definitely something wrong with your installation.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Including Thor 2 & Thor 3 ?

And how does Thor 5 T1 compare with T2 & T3 ?

Thor3 is actually stronger down here than Thor2.

I get the Nordic beams which Canal Digital is transmitting on.

Thanks for your comment, may i ask what Db reading you're getting on the horizontal and vertical bands?

I havent yet tested a receiver to see if all channels are available, as there is a 200Meter cable run being installed by electricians.

I am back out there soon, so may bring a portable Tv and receiver and try at dish end.

thanks ;-)

Presumably we are talking power cable here not satellite cable, as if satellite cable, unless you use a WF125 or better the signal loss will probably be unacceptably high

Im talking about Coax cable and yes the Electrician is running CT125 and i'll add launch amps were necessary.

My main concern is hitting the right Db readings at the head end so that im not amplifying noise!!!

If any one out there has a working dish on 1W Thor, please could you supply me with Db readings ;-)
