My System: New to satelites so need advice. Have purchased Humax Foxsat HDR but need a suitable dish
What do I need?

I've just bought a Humax Foxsat HDR and thought it would have an RF connectior as well as Satelite.............wrong! OK so Now I need to get a dish to connect to it in order to get freesat. Not wishing to jump in again feet first, I would like some advice on a dish setup to explore freesat and more.
So my questions are:
What size dish?
Do I need a motor
Can my humax control a motorised dish?
Should I go for a multi LMB dish
Do i need an DiSEqC switch etc etc
Any helpful advice would be appreciated foy my diy installation
Many thanks

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

Hi,

For 28E only a sky minidish will do.

No, you don't need a motor, but you can get one if you want.

Yes the HDR can control a motor.

You can go for a multiLNB dish if you want, your choice really.
(what sats do you want to view from?)

You only need a diseqc switch if you want to view satellites from multiple satellites or LNBs.

Thanks Mark, I appreciate the response.
If as you say my Humax will control a disk motor, I am unclear of how it does so? where does it connect to? Does it do it simply from the Coax signal or is there other wiring? Power etc

I was thinking of investing in a system that gives me choice, so the dish and motor seem the way forward. Can you recommend the components I need?

Thanks in advance

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

The Foxsat (and any other suitably DiSEqC specified Digital Satellite Receiver) controls a Motor using the same 13/18v supply provided for the LNB.

So the Motor sits between the Receiver and the LNB and happily passes the downconverted (IF) signals from the LNB. Coax from Receiver to Motor and coax from Motor to LNB. No additional cabling required.

Access to the relevant features in the Foxsat is during initialisation screens when you first set the box up: So if you've been using it just on a 28E dish for example, a factory reset will be required in order to get at the relevant menus.

I started using my Foxsat directly with a Motor and it works just fine.

It is now configured to accept either a feed from a fixed 28E dish or from one of my Motorised Dishes (Using another Receiver as the positioner).

So you see there is flexibility as well as simplicity

Do have a look at _http://foxsat.wikispaces.com/

Theres a secret menu on the Humax, you need to access that to control a motor- Secret menu on Humax Freesat box. For DiSEqC & USALS

It's not a secret any more - you've just let the cat out of the bag
