My System: Echostar AD3600IPVA Channel Master 1.2M VxMulti, MM1.04
Help with TM5500DAPCI and Magic CAM

Guys,

My brother has a Technomate 5500DAPCI with Magic 1.04 running Penta 1.11. Until last week he was watching the channels like Chasse & Peche (a Hunting fanatic) without any problems. Last week they had a power cut for around 4 hours. Since then his channels open for a short while, then they freeze, then they come up as "channel scarmbled.....". This happens on all the channels and encryption systems.

Has anyone seen this and know what could be causing it?

Tirosh.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Strange one Tirosh, could be the CAM overheating, could be corrupted software in the CAM, may be worth trying in the other CAM slot.

Yes, a very strange one indeed Rolf. What I am going to try this coming weekend is:

1. Different codes to see if that makes and difference
2. Swapping my Magic CAM with his one

This should help to narrow it down. I suspect it's the CAM S/W corruption. If that is the case then I can load Penta 1.11 on there again. My only concern would be if after trying these the problem still remains. The only difference then is the receiver. Is there any way this could be the problem?

Certainly a possibility, but it really is a guessing game at the moment.

I'll let you know the outcome of the above 2 tests. Hopefully I will have resolved the problem by then.

Here's what I have been able to try so far and the results:

1. Ever since he had his system (TM5500 DAPCI and MM with Penta 1.11) I have been giving him the MACH1 codes and all used to work fine. This stopped working about a week after a power cut.

2. I have given him an additional 4 cards with different codes to try. These were Shadows, Menbeds, JKF and Jetty. In total this makes it 5 with Mach1 codes

3. He has tried all these and all but one behave in the same way i.e. the channel opens but then freezes, sometimes gives a scambled message. The one that seems to work fine is JKFs codes. So far he has had it running for about an hour without any problems.

The good thing is that it gives him a working system for now. However, I find this very strange and if anyone can offer an explanation I would be grateful.

I would say reprogramme the module with either the same or another Penta firmware version

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"
