Hey, is it true that if I used a 1.2 metre dish in the corner of my garden, that I had to contact the authorities to ask for a planning permission? And if yes, does it take long for to take one? And if you don't know, do you reckon I'll get a fine for launching a satellite dish of 1.2m in diameter without getting any permission? I live in London, Dagenham, Essex. Thanks.

Blog Entries: 3 My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum. | Yes you do need planning consent, but if nobody else can see it, or you are on good terms with your neighbours you may be OK without. You wouldn't get fined in any event, simply asked to take it down.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100 | You could always make it a temporary mounting on the ground secured by (really heavy!) concrete blocks on the mounting brackets. No planning permission is needed for temporary constructions. But first of all, how well do you get on with your neighbours? And how easy is it to see where you want to put your dish on the wall from the road? I have a 1m dish (I want to increase the size though!) on my wall at the back of the house and I've never applied for permission. I also think that if you have your dish fixed for something like 7 years then, providing there have been no objections, you can keep it there. Better get started soon... PaulR

My System: Dreambox 7000, Skystar2 | .... and I think I'm right in saying that ALL wooden structures are regarded in legal terms as temporary... Isn't it four years regarding PP-lapse-stuff? Seem to remember when I sold my last house and I couldn't find the PP paperwork for the kitchen extension, they didn't care 'cos it was more than 4 years old, and no complaints lodged. Might be wrong... usually am!

| Hi M8 If the dish is not visable from the road your chances of getting away with it are very good. had my dish 1.2mt on 8ft pole for 6years at old house, now sitting on 7ft pole in new garden for 4years. No one has anything to say apart from what do you recive other than Sky. Do-not belive I never watch Sky. | ||
