Which channels are you hoping to recieve?

Firstly even on the Eastern sea board ( in which area do you reside) the 30.0 orbital slot is low on the horizon.
secondly the vast majority of the transponders and channels are directed to Europe and not the USA.

12.172H is directed to the USA along with 12172 V

Take a look at the channels with a footprint listed as America

Both the Europe and Spain listed transponder channels would require a very very large dish in the USA, and is not an easy option at all !

There are many other satellites that can be accessed from the USA however- what would you like to recieve?

You wont get anything from European satellites m8, as they are well below your horizon.
Your only option would be to look through Lyngsat website and see if there is anything you can get on the USA based sats.

What you see there is the overall footprints for all the beams. You need to look at the individual footprints. The channels you are after are all on the European beam, and not the American beam so you wont be able to receive them.

Firstly at your location have you assesed if you have a clear line of site to the satellite?

The 30.0 orbital slot is low on the horizon at your location

(RTVE)on 12502 is recievable at your location if you have a clear veiw.

For those signals I would suggest that you need an 1.2 mtr or approx 4 ft dish from your location.- a 2ft is to small at your loaction I would suggest.

There are a number of major satellite vendors within the US that can supply all what you need

http://www.gofastmotorsports.com/rickssatellitehome.htm

Here is one from a quick scan of the net "Vincor" is also very large not to far away also.

Make sure you get a full breakdown of callout costs before asking Vincor to come over

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Summing up:

The channels that are transmitted from 30W (the Hispasat cluster of satellites) are listed here, together with information such as encryption type and the beam on which they are carried:
http://www.lyngsat.com/hispa.shtml

Where only a provider/package is mentioned, click on its "DIG" icon to see the individual channels. For RTVE you then get this page:
http://www.lyngsat.com/dig/rtve.shtml
There you can see that those channels that are encrypted are encrypted in Nagravision.

The footprints of the beams of the various sats are seen here:
1A/1B - http://www.hispasat.com/FlotaSat/pop_up_cobH1AB.htm
1C - http://www.hispasat.com/FlotaSat/pop_up_cobH1C.htm
1D - http://www.hispasat.com/FlotaSat/pop_up_cobH1D.htm

All of those footprint maps indicate the strength of the signal in dbW at particular locations within the footprints. To get an idea of the typical dishsize needed for a particular signal strength, use this: http://www.mlesat.com/calculat.html

See also our "how to" section, this thread: http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/...&threadid=4386

In order to decrypt Nagravision channels, you either need an official subscription (which is paired to a particular identifier, or boxkey, in the CAM or receiver) or else a pirate card. The easiest pirate solution is to use a suitably programmed Funcard (using the so-called 6-in-1 files) though I'm not sure offhand whether those files contain the keys of the particular provider you are interested in. Such a card can be used in combination with one of the various multi-encryption enabled CI CAMs (eg FreeCAM, Magic CAM, etc) or else with one of the receivers whose software can be patched to make its internal CAM act like freecam/etc. Such receivers are the Humax 5400, the Samsung 9500, and more. I have no ide whether they are available on the US market, but I do not believe that your standard US-market Echostar/dishnetwork box will suffice.
