My System: Dreambox 8000 HD, 80cm Orbital Satellite Dish Motorized LNB with 2 outputs, 2nd output leading to upstairs and using Dreambox 500S. Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K Amp/Receiver,
2 Receivers via 1 Dish/LNB

Is it possible to hook up 2 receivers to 1 LNB (via loop through connection)??

I have a Technomate TM-1000 D Digital Satellite Receiver with a loop through connection underneath the LNB connection and I have a Comaq Digital Satellite Receiver

My System: Astra 19/Hotbird 13 Topfield TF5500PVR

Better IMO to use a twin output LNB, but yes an easy and common setup!

What are the advantages and dis-advantages of doing it through the loop through way?

The basic problem is that signals are sent Horizontally and Vertically and also LNB's have two tuning ranges (which I will call Hi and Lo for simplicity)

So if you tune a channel which is Horizontal and Lo, you cannot tune a channel which is Vertical and Lo for example on your second box.

I think you would get very disappointed quickly as the choice of channel on the Technomate would affect what you could receive on your second dish.

Provided you are a competent DIY-er, you would need a Dual output LNB (this is basically a single LNB, but with two seperate antennas internally), you connect your existing cable to one output and run a new cable to the second output and box.

Costs depends on how fancy a LNB you want, but around £30 is probably not too far out of the ball park
