My System: sky digi + porty2 on 80cm
help neede please, hotbird

Hi i'm new so this may be simple but it's got me stumped.

i bought a potable set up from lidl for my camper, tried it and it worked ok.
i've now taken the lnb off the little dish and fitted it to an 80cm in the garden.

it's pointed at hotbird and showing strength at 80% and quality at 91%, but i'm getting no picture.

(i've tried the scart and thats fine, also the tv is fine)

i've brought the box indoors and tried it on my sky dish and that works fine.

i set up hotbird on 102.5 Hit ch and got the above readings, although some of the channels are showing weak signal with little or no quality (arirang tv is one of the channels that shows no quality)

i also noticed that during the search the first 20-25% picked nothing up.

i set up the dish by guestimation and fettling.

thanks for any help
.joe.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

You are almost certainly pointing at the wrong satellite, try searching a transponder from the nearby neighbour satellites.

ok, i'll try that, i didn't realise it would show a high quality reading on some hotbird channels if it was pointing at the wrong satellite
thanks very much for quick reply.
would it make any sense doing a satellite search to see what it's pointing at ? (whats close ?)
i just guessed the direction by turning the dish about 15 o towards the south, going from the neighbours dish directions.
thanks again, and by the way is this post in the right place?

My System: SS1. 3.4Ghz P4. 125cm Gibbi with Channelmaster feedhorn and Inverto C120 twin. 36v H to H 62E - 61W

By all means do a scan and see where you are.
16E and 10E are either side of the Hotbird group.

Have a look HERE after your scan and see if you can match up the channels with what you are getting.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Chnaces are its either 19E or 28E - they have common frequencies across the 3 sets of satellites.

got it sorted thanks, don't know where it was pointed, but by the look of the neighbours dish, he's on hotbird, which i took as being on 28.2, therefore i was probably not far from due south.
thanks again for the help

think i understand the frequency now,
on whatever satellite the dish was pointed at there was a channel on the same frequency i was using for set up on hotbird,
this would cause a signal but no picture as the frequency was carrying a transmission, but i was trying to view on hotbird, is that right?

Right frequency, probably the wrong Symbol Rate.
