new system

Hi,

My goldern interstar 8005CI has died on me and i need to get a new one which will cost about £100.

I was quite happy with my old system but im looking for something more. I have a monoblock system set up pointing at hotbird and Astra.
I was looking at subscribing to Art sports but the interstar does not have a viacess slot so i would have to buy a cam which makes it a bit expensive.
The interstar is updateble via patches through an RS232 cable which makes it easy to update once keys have been changed.
I also have a sky dish with official subscription which is run on a seperate box, taking up room in my lounge.

Is there a system reciever that would suit my needs (viacess cam essential, sky compatible not so) and price?
Ive also considered card sharing but that is not possible with the interstar.

thanks for any help or advice

Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I have a feeling that a Dreambox will do what your wanting, pretty sure some of them support NDS..

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

I agree wilf, sounds like Dreambox would fit the bill, would do everything you want, plus record to either a built in hard drive, or the drive on your PC when networked.

If he were not a wizard, from head down to the root, you would have got to worry-your DB only boots

The DB500s does everything the big brothers do except in has no HD but you can record to your PC's hard drive if it's networked.

sounds good. how much would be a good price for one of those?
is there a way of getting the Ethernet connection to run on a wireless network?
i have 2 static dishes, one for SKY and one for hotbrid/Astra. i presume i have to connect them to an external switch before plugging them into the box?

About £100 (maybe a bit more, either from Ebay or Germany).

You can make it wifi using an ethernet bridge- try a search in Dreambox section for "ethernet bridge".

The bigger models may be more wifi compatible ie via usb.

Yes, a simple DiSEqC switch will do that for you. Three LNB's in, one cable out (and into your receiver). They can go indoors or outdoors, depending on whether you want one or three cable runs into the property. Only cost betwween 5 and 20 quid, but I would go for a good make as I've heard of a few cheaper items failing. Global are probably one of the better manufacturers.

DM500s around £120?

Wireless no problem, but you will have to buy a bridge. Read my how-to in the Dreambox stickies section. Some USB devices are available, but only run 11.b

Kebab: if you join the Dreambox clan there are 2 rules:

1. Read the Idiot's Guide.
2. See Rule 1.
3. Dreamboxes don't obey rules.

Just a quick check around the German outlets, the price does seem to have shot up on the continent (they used to be around £120), but they can be had for £140 from one of this site's sponsors :-

Maybe the January sales?

Have a look at DVB-SHOP24, he advertises on this forum and is from Germany. His site is in English with the prices in £'s. I have had numerous goodies from him and found his service and prices to be excellent. Shipping from Germany works out cheaper than that charged by many UK dealers.

Happy Hanukkah to those of that persuasion and to others.

Hi cheers for the advice,

i checked the DVB-SHOP24 and the price was £126. once i had entered my details and delivery address (UK) the price jumped to £150.

...only over the ethernet network connection, but yes. You need to have a PC or other networked disk available and mounted.
