hello to everyone. i am a very newbie to the this forum and i'm looking to learn more about the sat world. i would like some help on 2 topics and i hope this is the place to ask. if not i'm sorry.
1. to get started i'm looking to buy a small motor dish but would like to what is the smallest i can go but still get a good picture? i'm going to but a universal lnb because i thought that would be the best to start with? however i do not know which receiver to get. i dont want to spend a lot on my 1st one but dont want anything thats going to disapoint or be hard to use. can anyone please help.
2. i want to really get into this forum and would like to use an avatar. can someone help me in doing this?

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Welcome to the forum, have moved this to the Digital Systems section, as this covers your general question.

For Scotland, a 90cm dish is about the minimum for a good selection of satellite viewing and this can be powered by a DiseqC motor which is relatively easy to set up. A universal LNB is the standard for the majority of European viewing and there is a wide choice available.

With regard to receivers, you can get one which is flashable (you can update the software using a Null modem serial lead) for less than £100 and in fact for as little as £70 or £80.

You can install yourself an avatar by going into your user CP at the top left of the forum and either choose one from the many we have, or find one from the sites I have listed in the welcome message in announcements and news. http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/...ad.php?t=28590

You will need to have a look around the forum and make sure that the avatar you use doesn't clash with one of the regular members, but you can always change it if by chance it does.

PS. Anything with Flying pigs is not advisable.

Im in south east scotland, have a look at these two web sites

_www.analoguesat.co.uk
_www.digitalsat.co.uk

which gives lists of the sorts of stuff I can see with a selection of battered old 80cm dishes. You should get a similar range of satellites. Im not motorised, I use 5 dishes! which are currently pointing at:

60cm:
28E (Sky dish - permanently fixed)

80cm:
5E
13E permanently fixed)
19E

100cm:
16E

Two 80cm and the 100cm dish move around the satellites as I get the urge to see something different.

Otherwise, there's Ebay ........
