how to reset portyII

Hi all

i've just got a portyII bargained but without a remote. I'd need to go into the installation menu to use the quality/reception levels so i can point my dish... i've got a sat finder, but i can't get hold of it for a while, and i'd be silly to buy a new one... so i'd want to use the stb's one... but the b****** asks me for a code!!!!! Is there a way of reseting this to original factory settings, and use the menu without an access code? all other menu's unprotected btw.

Cheers!

Not sure whether there is a flash available, but if there is, then it would should then give you full access.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos there's no room for dishes here... :(

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

There is a default code (if you've lost the main one), you need that to do a full reset, I'll see if I can find my PortyII's instruction book..

P.S. you do need the remote, it's very difficult to work the box without it....

A few weeks ago my Porty blew up and I took it back for a refund (well my good lady took it back), a few hours later I found the remote between the cushions of the settee! Accidentally honest!
So to cut a long story short, assuming you live in the UK, pm me your address and it's yours, free, gratis and for nothing.

p.s. Just read your location, where's Vega, the star?

Hei 2cvbloke, did you get a chance to seek through your book and find the default code?

I've searched all over the house, I think it must have gotten thrown out when I moved house, and I did try to find the .pdf version I had, but that's gone walkies too....

Hi bidOn,
Dont Know if this is what you mean but all the portys + comags use 0000 as the default password i have the porty manual here and it says if you lose your password contact manufacturer. If factory re set is not locked and you can get in the new code will be 0000. john22.

My System: Comag SL55 receiver. Lidl 0.6 LNB. Lidl 80cm dish. Metronic DiSEqC motor. Mico STB235 Freeview box. JVC SVHS Video .Targa 160GB HDD/DVD recorder. 3 x UHF modulators. 6-way Booster/Splitter.

AFAIK The password is stored in the channel list file - at least on the SL55 which is a very similar machine.

If you want to know the password you can retrieve the channel list from the porty to your PC and examine it with a hex editor. But the easiest thing would be to download a new channel list which will overwrite the current password.

Likewise, if you flash it with some new firmware the password will be reset.

Hi bidOn,
I am afraid you might be out of luck there. As far as I know no patch as ever been floated for the porty11
The flash for the Comac sl55 can be used on the Porty 1 but I belive they changed the hardware on the Porty11{spoil sports} Take a look at //groups.yahoo.com/group/sl55 A lot about the Porty11 there.
