My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Spectrum analyser.

Just holding the dish at roughly the same position as the other dish, is probably not accurate enough, as dishes can have different offset angles.

The Porty dish is pretty good if its fastened down secure enough.
I find the sat finder that came with it although a bit "Heath Robinson" gives you a pretty good idea where to point dish and a bit of fiddling gets a pic.

I use my Porty whilst on the move and have now managed to get sat finding down to about 5 mins.

The caravans are coming.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos there's no room for dishes here... :(

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

PortyII's signal strength is misleading, it'll say 74% even when the dish is aimed at the floor, it's the quality you need to keep an eye on, and the "dingdingdingdingdingding" sound getting as loud as possible....

I managed to align my PortyII dish in 2 minutes flat when I was searching for Astra2 (where sky comes from) once...

I think your car looks funny too......

comag porty 2 signal

hello 2cvbloke (by the way i used to be pit crew for a friend who used to race 2cv's. We travelled the length and breath of the country to race against other cv's, even a 24 hour race at mondella park in Ireland!
Thanks for your reply any thoughts on what the picture of the bridge is all about? I will have to try harder to get a better signal. Do you think i should buy a signal finder?
thanks Paul. (dragon2003dragon)

A satellite meter will speed the set up considerably.

I would say it is essential if you want to satellite surf.

My System: newbie

Hi,

The picture of the bridge means that you have not searched a satellite for any channels, below might give you a quick guide for setting up dish for astra 2

1. Set Dish up with meter ( I think the compass that comes with it refers to Astra One, so I use a meter )
2. Once you find the sat with meter, connect to dish to receiver
3. Press menu, and goto installation - antenna setting
4. select astra 2 and a decent transponder
5. check signal quality and tweak dish to you get 60% or higher ( higher the better and note quality is the top red bar, not the bottom green bar )
6. Once you have locked on to sat, and quality is over 60%, and beeping is rapid, then you can scan the sats see step 7.
7. Press menu and goto installation - automatic scanning, select astra 2 and eurobird from sat window ( will have tick next to them ), then select scan free channels, wait 5 mins as it goes through transponder list.
8. now you should have channels and you can sort your favourites.

Hope that helps

Cheers
