My System: Multichoice DSTV
Using S African Sat decoder in UK

I have a DSTV Multichoice Dual-View decoder which I bought in S Africa and used to receive the DSTV programs.

I can set it to look at Astra 2 and set up the network details etc. and the signal strength is good, and the unit finds the bouquets and loads the channels into memory - and even decodes the program details and shows them.

It complains about the encoder card. Are ALL the channels encoded? What about the ITV, Sky News etc.? I thought these were free to view?

Has anyone any experience of using the SA box in UK?

For technical detail - it is called a DSD820 manufactured by UEC Technologies - it has an IRDETO decoding logo on it.

IT has a very detailed setup menu - asking me if I want to use NIT, SMARV or none - I can set the Freq Lo and Freq High, polarity, FEC and which satellite I have chosen to point to.

I already have a Sky+ box, so this is an extra, running off a second dish pointed at Astra 2.

Anyone help?

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Yes, ITV etc are free to air, so perhaps it is one of the video settings which is incorrect.

Scoop, rifty is trying to use it for the free to air English channels on Astra 28.2, so won't need a card of any sort, he is based in the UK.
