Someone help me, PLEASE! I've been trying for a week!

Hello,
I have a Kaon receiver, whose H/W is 16.00.A1.
I want to download new firms from web and got all of the following:
USB-to-RS232 coverter
Null modem cable(female on both sides)
KaonTeam BL219v4 program
and Kup230 Engineer
Yet, I don't know how to use the cables with the software. I pluged my receiver with the null modem cable, but both the program and the receiver acted like they weren't connected.
Please explain the process from the start, and I'll be very grateful!
Thank you!

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

You may have problems with the USB to RS232 converter, do you not have access to a PC with an RS232 port?

Dear Sir,
My computer has a socket with 9 pins, so does my receiver. On this site http://www.sat.us.pn/
I've read I needed a UsB-to-RS232 coverter, whose plug also has 9 pins, so I needed a null modem cable that has female plugs on both sides.
I plugged the USB side of the converter to the computer and plugged the RS part to one side of the null modem cable and plugged the other side of with the receiver. That way didn't work.
I used the null modem to plug my PC directly (without USB converting) to my receiver, and it didn't work either.
The thing is the programs I use don't report an error, such as "no receiver recognized".
I forgot to put my receiver model, it's Kaon KSF570.
Thank you very much!

Turn te reciever off at the supply, then connect the reciever to the computer with just the null modem cable. Then run the software on the computer and switch on the reciever when the software asks you to. Try it in that order.

I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one.

Agreed. I have a similar set up and it's very sensitive to the order that you do things. Just one further suggestion if Lancelot's doesn't work. Sometimes I have to reboot my computer before I do anything, to "reset" the computer port. Assuming you're not using a lap top you don't need a USB-RS232 converter - these are often used for lap tops which don't have the 9-pin RS232 port.

In the message window of KUP230 it's possible to select and copy the record of what happened. Please try again and then paste the whole thing in a message here so I can see what's going on.

Also, make sure that you've got the correct port i.d. set up. KUP 230's default is COM1, but if for any reason your computer port is set up as anything else you'll need to change COM1 in the settings.

Are you sure that you are using a null modem cable? It's essential for wires 2 and 3 to be crossed inside - having females on both ends isn't sufficient to be sure.
