My System: Who knows
Just Staring Out, Advice Please

I've spent a bit of time reading through various threads but there seems a lot of contradiction.

I'm currently on S*y Digital full package... yeah paying over the odds!
I'm looking to get more channels for free and either rid myself of Sky or dowsize my package.

I want to get as much movies and Premiership football as possible. Maybe also some cool comedy/drama channels that play stuff UK won't show for another 6 months. Something along those lines...

What's the best thing to do?

I've read of getting another dish/receiver and picking up the foreign satelites but I hear of so many different types of receivers and so on.

Can someone tell me, if the 2nd dish/receiver thing is the way to go, what is the Best dish/receiver- meaning I don't have to keep moving the dish (motor maybe?) around and what channels I could get. How does the channels work doI have to buy packages?? - I'm hoping to pay very little a month but don't mind spending a little to get started.

I keep hearing about a dreambox is that the way to go?

All help appreciated

My System: Pace 2200 Sky digibox with ftv card, Comag SL65 FTA sat receiver, 40cm Sky minidish, Setpal terrestrial receiver (for free uk tv only!).

Well ......... good luck!

Although much alternative satellite programming is available, it's mostly non English, even if you're naughty and (manage to) obtain software decryption keys.

(hmm ... would the best bet for UK material be decrypted BFBS?).

The situation is better for movies, but still mostly needing decryption.

There's a fair amount of sport on the free European channels, but again "premium" stuff is likely to be encrypted.

Sky have taken good care with their encryption system, it remains uncracked.

On the hardware side, actual satellite reception equipment is reasonably cheap, and not too difficult to install DIY, but that's not the problem.

My System: Stand alone Sky system. 1.0 motorised dish with 12 inch actuator, 0.3dB MTI LNB, TM1500 CI+ Super,V Box, Digitalb Full package.

Hi
I found myself in the same prediciment as you. Paying £500 for Sly. I now have a package known as Digitalb which is on 16E. It currently has 19 channels

Digitalb had the rights to the English Premiership, German & French football league.
The most recent movies are shown here. The only down side is that you have to put up with the Albanian subtitles
As an added bonus there is also Channel X showing adult fayre. Full package costs around £140/12months. You will need to buy a reciever I bought a Technomate 1500+Super receiver. You will also need at least a 80cm dish whether fixed or motorised and a LNB 0.3DB. Should budget on £250 hardware and installation costs if you are not going to DIY. Fleabay has some good deals. If you want any more information search the forum or web.
Cheers for now.

Just to clarify .....

Digitalb requires a conax cam. The Technomate model mentioned has one built in, or you can use a sat receiver with CI slots and buy the cam separately.

There's various websites with the channels info and packages, including some that do an inclusive card/cam deal.

Here's the Digitalb package on Lyngsat:

The Technomate 1500+Super is a very patchable box.

As far as I can tell, a Darkman patch will open most if not all of the hacked channels.

Don't mind my spelling

the 1500ci doesn't have a conax cam built in , its just a multicrypt card reader

Sorry, I saw a weblink which suggested this, but maybe it had been patched?

In which case, brivaldo would need the conax cam.

My System: Who knows

Do you still require a subscription for these patches?

What's the best receiver/dish and cam to get for these patches and where might I get the patches?

Thanks for all advice above by the way!

Sorry, I'm being a bit thick here!

The "official" way to get any viewing package is with CI receiver, appropriate CAM, and officially issued pre - paid viewing card (which might not be "officially" available outside the intended reception area!).

I was suggesting this, assuming possibly no internet access, but of course to post brivaldo must already have such access!

If the receiver can be internally flashed, using files downloaded from internet, then you don't necessarily need an additional CAM at all (depending on what you're trying to do, etc).

Flashing will need a direct computer connection to the satellite receiver, appropriate software, and the correct files. If card programming is involved, you'll also need the appropriate additional hardware for that.

Getting encrypted satellite unofficially has now become legally dubious, due to recent changes in EU law, and Rolf will say things like "please, no posted files!" etc. However, it's still easy enough to find such stuff on the internet, if you know where to look!

A pre-condition of all this is that - to start with - you must be able to receive the satellite channels you want, which means using a big enough dish at your particular ground location.
