My System: Raven 70 for Astra 1 & 2 (Sky+)
Question Astra 19.2 reception with Sky installation

Hi!

I would like to get a Sky engineer install a single dish with two LNBs later this week, but I'm not sure if they are going to do this for me. Originally I will have a Sky+ installation, but I would like to ask the engineer to use a slightly larger dish (e.g. the Raven Gemini 70cm) and add a second LNB on a holder bracket for the Astra 19.2 postion. I know that technically it is possible and I am not asking about the technical side. I would like to know if the Sky engineer is likely to do this custom installation for me? In this case, do I better contact Sky with this request in advance or shall I discuss this with the engineer when I get a call from him on the morning of the installation - this might be too late though. I could also buy a larger dish and the additional receiver for the Astra 19.2 satellite myself before the Sky installation and ask the guy to replace my existing Sky minidish with the new one and to add the other LNB as well. (The Raven 70 is an oval, Sky mini-like dish so my previous Skyware LNB and the new quad LNB, or whatever I get for Sky, will both be compatible with that dish. My question is if Sky would do such a custom installation for me at all and if they would charge anything for it even if I buy the additional hardware myself? I don't want to call someone out again after the Sky installation to replace that what they did before and I would like to have just one dish on the wall. Could someone please suggest, what I should do?

Thanks,
Vilmos

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Yep, as wod says, the Sky installer has no leeway at all, he will have nothing on his van for that type of installation and with the price they charge for installations, would not be able to afford a dish upgrade.

It's pretty much get what you're given with an install organised via Sky.

My System: Fixed dish on 19.2e for free to air only.

When i worked for sky, we used to fit 60cm dishes with 2 LNBs for Astra 1 and 2. It was generally booked through sky, but we could do them if we had the kit on board, for a premium (or some good old cash in hand)

However, that was back when 19.2 was still broadcasting English stuff and was only done to get the 2 or so percent, who wanted to keep German tv, happy. My guess is sky will not offer it as a standard service anymore.

You may as well ask the engineer, some are more amenable to doing `extras` than others, but you will have to offer him something. The guys have a massive workload and a twin LNB set up can be quite time consuming, so you cant expect him to do it out of kindness. Or he may be able to put you on to someone. Either way, i think you will have to accept that this will cost you in excess of the standard Sky charge for installation. Hope this helps
