How good must the signal strength be to get digital satellite channels?

I used to get French digital channels France2/3/4/5 when I was in London. Now I've moved in Yorkshire and I can't get any of those channels anymore. Signal strength on my box says around 70% when I'm pointing to AB3. I haven't changed any of the settings in my PortyII box. I'd have thought it would be sufficient to get digital channels. Or could something else be wrong?

Note: For anyone else reading this post AB3 = 5°w

This is one of the strongest signals available in the UK, easily obtainable in Yorkshire. Suggest you check alignment and obstructions.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Your dish cant be aligned properly. AB3 puts out some of the strongest signals in the skies above Europe. I can get 5W on a 43cm zone 1 sky dish no problem at all.

I'd imagine the alignment is correct as I can get all the analogue French channels fine when I use my analogue box and keep the same alignment.
You reckon I can get a 90%+ signal strength if I move the dish a bit to get a better alignment? The dish I have is quite small.

My System: Humax IRCI5400Z Triax 80cm

i am receiving Hotbird and Astra with both on approx. 65% signal strength and i have crystal clear picture. The signal quality reads almost 100% on both signals though. I use a Triax 80cm dish with a Thetys monoblock linked to a Humax IRCI5400Z receiver.

My System: DreamBox 7000s - Nokia Freeview - Several GameBoys - DS Lite - ZX81 - SNES - N64 - Sega Saturn Dreamcast - PlayStation - Gamecube - PSP - iPod - iPhone - XBox - PS3 - Wii - No Life!

Is it the camping kit set with the small dish?

Have you tried slight adjustments then waiting a few seconds as digital signals can take a few seconds to lock on (unlike analogue)?

Yes it is. I get a signal of about 70% but no picture on screen (saying no signal). I'll try waiting a bit after adjusting the dish.
Cheers

For £3.99 get yourself a satellite finder from Lidl next Monday 28th August 2006.

That will make setting up for various satellites a doddle!

£3.99 - how do they do it?

Check your symbol rate - it changed to 20000 a couple of months ago.

Correct!
I found that out while verifying the transponder details with lyngsat!
Thanks a lot - I would have found out from you today if I didn't go on lyngsat last night!

I'm back on the digital satellite saddle!

One thing I couldn't tune was RFO - Tele Reunion. Its frequency is 3641 R
How to tune that in? I can't select any "R" on the transponder data input in my box, just Horizontal or Vertical are available
What does R mean?

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

That is on C-Band, so unless you have a big dish and a C-Band LNB, you will have no chance.

R stands for Right hand circular polarisation.

Darn! really want to get that channel.

Would I need a new box as well?
Thanks for all the help guys. I'm learning new things everyday

Edit: Just checked the online shops and they mention C120 LNBs, is that what I need?
