My System: TM 6900 HD Combo Super; 2 dishes; Astra1+2 and Hotbird, Hispasat; external DiSEqC switch.
receiver for euro free-to-air + sky epg ?

Hello,

I hope I've chosen the right forum to ask this in ;

Does anyone have or knows of a satellite receiver which can do the following :-

Receive all (analogue or digital) free-to-air broadcasts from Astra1, Astra2 and Hotbird
and
Detect and display the Sky EPG data consistently on Astra2 'sky' channels, showing the current programme details and, importantly, ones over at least the next few hours.
(I'm obviously not expecting or hoping for 'digibox-like' functionality such as search and scan banner, autoview, series link etc, but at least be able to access the above minimum info somewhere on screen via one or more button presses)

I am currently set up for and watching all three satellite groups and have an old Pixx receiver. It has some kind of 'epg' facility but it only detects/shows the current programme name on a handful of Astra2 (sky) channels, and no detail of the next programme(s).

Thanks for any knowledge,
Lee

Doesn't one of the DB plugins do that ???.

Moved to the Dreambox section.

I wondered where my post had gone!
I hope it is relevant to the Dreambox, because presumably non-Dreambox users won't see my question now !

There is but I've never used it so can't comment on how well it works.

There is built-in EPG for 2 programmes e.g the one you're watching and the next one.

As far as I know, the Sky EPG plugin on the Dreambox (not straightforward to install) is the only one which approaches the one on a digibox, but on the outside chance that there may possibly be other options, I'm going to move this back to the Digital systems section.

My System: Dreambox with PLi-Emerald 1.09 image, Matrix revolution CAS, newcamd emu, movable dish 0.85 m, very happy indeed

There are actually 2 plugins to get the SKY EPG data, one is the SKY EPG plugin which gets it's data from the BLEB website and which has limited EPG capabilities (BLEB isn't showing the BBC data any more, because of copyright issues, but you get most other channels 3 days in advance). Installation is not straightforeward, as you also have to configure MV to "read" and "translate" the XML-data, but once this is done it's a matter of executing a script from time to time.
Then there is the new SKY EPG script from oudeis, which gets its data from the radiotimes website. This is very much the one you'll want, giving EPG data for almost all SKY channels 14 days in advance. Problem here is that it only works on the PLi Flubber image, in combination with the "experemental" SQL-lite EPG database. I'm using it, and it works quite well, if you don't mind an enigma crash occasionally. I found it easier to install than the SKY EPG plugin, but you may have to look for it if you want to download it - how's your Dutch :-) - the last version can be found somewhere in this thread : http://www.sat4all.com/forums/showfl...0&fpart=1&vc=1 - look for messages from "oudeis".

There is also one called weekEPG 1.24 by MaxZ4

EDIT:

But it's for $ky on 13E so forget that....

Thanks for your further replies;

Presumably all the details given above are regarding the Dreambox? ie not other cheaper receivers.

thanks,
Lee

mine are ...... (dreambox, I mean)
if you don't mind getting the EPG on a pc, you should look around for sources for the XMLTV project, this will load EPG data in XML form from several sources onto your pc, where it can be viewed by XMLTV viewers. It's all opensource, mostly freeware, but it's not easy to get into either .......
there ARE "easy" solutions, but they are payware (like 'liquid oxygen' and other EPG installers for pc).

ok, thanks, I see.

You've made me think though that I could possibly just find a website somewhere or other which lists all the Astra2 channels with 'epg-like' details?
ie it wouldn't be linked to my receiver in any way, and presumably would be a breach of Sky copyright (?) but at least I could browse the listings easily.

ie like a 'paper' TV Guide but online and comprehensive across all 'sky' carried channels.

If you are looking for an off receiver answer, then I seem to remember that _http://www.digiguide.com/ have a nice guide and it can be tailored very easily.

Thanks; I've now downloaded Digiguide and am giving the free trial a go.
I also looked at bleb.org's online guide but they don't have the rights to ITV listings, which apparently Digiguide does.

My sister has used the pay version for years now and loves it, particularly the programme reminders.

Look at birtles.org.uk for listing downloader from RT. There is a viewer also, but only shows one channel at a time so you may want to experiment with other viewers
