Latin American TV

I am totally new to this and I am looking to get a satellite system that can pick up Spanish TV, preferable Latin American TV. The in-laws are coming to England from Colombia next year and don't speak a word of English, so I need to know if anyone can tell me, is it possible to get TV from Latin America, what type of system do I need and where is the best place to get it from and any other information that might be helpful to me.

Don't think that you'll get any TV from that source, even with a very big dish Mono. There are however many Spanish language channels available on the European satellites like 19.2E and 13E. For those you would only need an 80cm dish with 2 LNBs or a monobloc LNB and a DiseqC capable receiver.

I haven't tried to view them lately but there were some South American channels on Sirius that can be viewed with an 80cm dish,I used to view them and my dish is only 80cm and I'm in West Yorks

Old Satellite

Hi you can recieve many channels direct from the Latin America Region in europe.

A majority of the signals do however require some expensive equipment and a large dish - here is some further information.


NSS 806 at 40.5 west- ALL transponders are on C band you can however receive many of them on dishes down to 1.8 mtr with a good ADI corotor (not the chapperal its to noisy!) A 2.0 mtr will generally allows vewing even in adverse weather conditions

Intelsat 805 at 55.5 ( all are on C band) West also has many Latin American signals , here again some of the transponders channels you can recieve on a 1.8mtr. others you need at least a 3.0 mtr.

Also on the Panamsat PAS 9 (ALL on C band) at 58.0 west there are again many south and north American transponder channels,
that can be recieved.

Here the minimum is 2.0 mtr for some of the transponder channels, and for good solid reception on 90% then a 3.0 mtr is required. others require a 3.7mtr.

There are also several other channels that you can recieve on other satellites but they are generally much lower (weaker signals)


Are you sure that some channels from hipasat would not help ? a majority are much easier to receive from the UK and are on KU band recievable with 1.2 dish for most UK locations

Sorry Mono, it appears that I gave you a bit of a bum steer on my reply to your post, must confess that i hadn't considered C Band as I don't use it, so tend to forget about it.

For the sats that Old Satellite mentions, you will of course also require a relatively open aspect to the SW , as the satellites are quite low on the horizon.
