Fortec Beta on the way....

Hi,

Ordered myself a Fortec Beta kit from work (Maplin)...
Jsut curious, is this receiver patchable? I guess it is, as I *think* I've found compatible firmware on a site (the name escapes me..again!).
What does the patch do? And does anyone have a list of channels from 2D available after patching?

The list of pay stations from Astra 2D is easy:

NONE!

All pay channels on the 28E satellites are subscription or card share only

Not sure if you can patch it, but if you can I doubt it will make any difference to what you can receive from 2D which are either NDS/videoguard encrypted or FTA.

EDIT...Too slow today...

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Installed a Beta the other week and it didn't work, the guy had to take it back for a replacement. Don't know if they are patchable.

Aha..aha aha aha..aha (remember the Da Da Da song?!), what other birds to look at then? It's mainly the BBC I'm after, which is only from 2D unless I'm wrong.

BBC is FTA so no need for any patch or card

I know, sorry (brain off today!) But I'm just wondering to experiment...which channels (not necessarily on 2D) will the patch allow me to watch? And what does the patch do?

This site has patches for the Alpha/Beta STB -

_www.al7bar-soft1.com/

May be out of date, but, as with other Fortec patches, will presumably provide you with a code menu with which to update key$.

Also on that site are tools to upload the patch to your box.

Llew, that site drops support of many boxes quite quickly. I've had a Lifetime Diamond and a couple of Ultimates and once anything other than a simple key change happens the box becomes next to useless (the only saving grace of these Fortecs IMHO is the "free" channels while they last)

I know, Skip. They were very good with updates earlier on when they first started up. I was able to keep my Ultra 5100 up to date regularly until key changes became more frequent.

As far as I know, there wasn't any other site servicing patches for the box (other forums such as Yahoo just copied the AL7bar patches).
