My System: broadband - no saellite as yet
very basic question

Starting from point zero. Any advice much appreciated. I want to receive Uk television - except sky - in Turkey. I live in izmir. I have broadband but its quite slow. Turkish system seems to be 2 dishes via a "box" I have seen the list of channels - but most are not english language. What is the best way to receive uk tv in Izmir. through computer or direct from satellite. What equipment will I need?
Mapins have a high definition FTA satellite receiver on sale - do I need this piece of kit? Thanks Chris

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

Hi, the only satellites that the UK channels are broadcast on are the 28.2E/28.5E
(Astra1/Eurobird1). The problem is that most of the FTA ones are on the ASTRA2 2D beam which is focussed tightly on the UK. Other FTA are on 28.5 fixed beam

The FTA channels available on the above sat cluster are listed here:-
__http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

The ones with an 'F' in column 4 are FTA.

For the 2D channels you will need a very big dish, check here:-
http://www.satellites.co.uk/satellite/VBGooglemap.php

For the 28.5 channels a smaller dish (1.2-1.5m) according to Lyngsat.

Only one dish is required to pick up both 28.2 and 28.5.

You don't need a HD receiver, any of the FTA receivers in Maplin will do,
or FTA satelite receivers from elsewhere also.

regards.

basics

Thanks for the replies. Still not sure how to proceed. I could fit a dish with max diameter of 2m if necessary but would this bring uk channels in range? what other equipement do I need? any recommendations? Will I still need to re-programme or can this be done autmatically?
