Dish size

Hi, this is my first post, and it's probably a stupid one, but please go easy on me.

I'm just about to get a dreambox and I've been told I really need a dish big enough to get "all the satellites". I doubt I can do that, but I want to get enough to be spoilt for choice for football .. what size dish am I looking at? Is 1m about right or bigger/smaller?

thanks
ec

My System: 85cm transparent dish 0.2db lnb titanium wf100 cable dreambox500s technomate 9100 linux Eaglebox UK nds card

nice to see you have joined the forum.

I live 300 miles north of you and I can pick up most of the stronger satellites no problem. I have an 80cm dish and I can pick up 28e,19e,16e,13e,1w,30w. These satellites will get you ample football.

see _www.lyngsat.com for footprints (size of dish u need)

see _liveonsat.com for football (what sats)

I would suggest that if size is an issue...then 80cm is spot on for what you require.

If size is not an issue...then I suggest bigger the better 1m + would be good for weaker sats.

My System: TM6800HD+TD110+StabHH90 motor,TM1000D+Orbital 1m Multifeed 16E,23E,28E.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox.

1m should be OK, you might as well go to the biggest you can have without planning permission.

A lot of the football is on DigitalB at 16E (Subscription needed).

and of course, you'll need to motorize it too to maximize your choice,
or use a multi LNB set up, but this won't give you as many sats.

Thanks for the replies, good to be armed with a bit of information.

I'll probably stick with the 80cm dish, at least I know it's good enough to pick up a whole load of satellites.

I'll be back when I can't work out how to connect my Dreambox to my erratic home network ... :-)

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

You might perhaps want to go for a little larger, as some sats like 33E (Fox Turk channel has football) will need a 90cm +. Also, go for a good quality dish, it is very much a case of you get what you pay for.
