My System: Sky + looking for best patced receiver and motorised setup.
No satellite signal on certain channels

I have just moved house and fitted a new quad lnb to an existing dish.
I am receiving most channels okay but there is a few i am not receiving.
Signal strength and signal quality are fine on both inputs to my S k y+.
The channels i am not getting include

126 para comedy 1
128 para comedy 2
130 scifi +1
351 smash hits
352 magic
401 sky sports 1
403 sky sports 3
406 mutv
410 eurosport

to name just a few.

I have tried connecting another digibox but got exactly same results.
Is it likely to do with the polarity of theses channels?
There are 5 position settings on the quad lnb and i have tried them all but all give same results.
Surely there is a quick fix for this minor but annoying problem.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Regards

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos I'm a lazy git. Porty dish face blew off the mount, not too pleased...

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

Try tilting the dish up slightly, the heavier quad LNB tends to pull the dish arm down a bit...

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

It could well be alignment, but could be a faulty LNB or outside interference. Have a look here and see what frequencies and polarities the channels are on.

My System: DM7000, Gemini, CAMD3 - Gibertini 85cm, 3* Smart Titanium dual LNB, Smart Diseqc.

I got once a similar prob. I found out, that only highband channels were received. LNB changed and everything was fine then. I had 3 of these faulty LNBs. I took me ages to find out.

My System: Sky + looking for best patced receiver and motorised setup.

The plot thickens.
I unplugged the quad lnb checked my cables and re-connected it onto 2 different inputs of the quad lnb. Now i am getting the channels that i previously couldn't but now i have no signal on different channels, 2 of which are bbc 1&2. I have now established that input 1 and input 2 have different sets of channels with no signal and i have worked out that if i record a channel on 1 input i can then switch to the other input to allow me a way to receive all channels. Hope that explanation makes sense to you, i am still baffled as to what is wrong, i dont know if it's the dish, the cables or the lnb that has the problem. I think most probably it's the lnb even though it is brand new, its a wistron quad.
I might have to pay s k y to fit me a new dish with quad and new cables as a last resort think they only charge £40 for this but this ties you in again for 12 months so i have been told.
Anyway thanks to all for previous advice and any further tips greatly received.

What does the LNB say on it?

Yours sounds like you are using a quattro LNB
"Quattro universal LNB"
This has four fixed outputs and is used only in "head end" I.F. distribution systems for apartment blocks. One LNB supplies a head end unit that can provide (typically) up to 16 outputs for separate Digiboxes. The four outputs of the LNB are as follows:-
1. Horizontal polarisation low band
2. Horizontal polarisation high band
3. Vertical polarisation low band
4. Vertical polarisation high band
You should not connect any of the outputs, 1 - 4, directly to a receiver unless you want to restrict viewing to just one of the four options. Even if you do, the receiver may not work. It's not a good idea. Use the Quad instead.

Or maybe your receiver is not setup for the right sort of LNB (single LNB!!!) or faulty and not able to switch the bands and polarisations...?

Cheers, bimmer

That was my thought Bimmer, but that is definitely a Wistron Quad. So sounds like a faulty LNB or mis-aligned dish.
