Advice for new setup, big project!

Hello everyone. Im new. I am looking for some advice. I would like to buy a satellite system to basically receive as many channels from as many different countries as possible. I would like to recieve everything from high def. to porn.

I have been looking at andrews dishes, but unsure of size. Motorized dish I think is a must. LNB's how many? I don't know and what type either! Id like a box I can configure using the PC but would like it to be high def compatible and have at least 1 hdmi connection. Have a hardrive that I can expand using a server that I have for storage of media etc.

I think I have mentioned everything. Oh, ct125 cable I think is about the best cable around (is it? what is the best money can buy?)

If i will need a big dish it will have to go in the garden! a smaller one (1mtr) can go on wall. But I presume with a motorized dish 365 deg. turning capability would be best!

My budget, well there isn't really a budget but don't want to spend more than 5k!

Sorry if I sound a little stupid. The reason I want all this is because I am sick of sky basically. Want to expand my horizons! Oh and receiving italian tv is a must! =) caio for now.

My System: 4,5 m Andrew -Multifeed C/Ku Band

Hello italianninja,

look for a 2,4 m in one Peace - if you have a free Horizont you can get in Italy nearly everything from 90° Est to 58° West.
For motorising this dish choose a Egis Rotor - and beware of Jaeger HH-Mount s like a HQ 1224 SMR or KM 1012 - they are not stable and bad quality!
For lnc try a SMW or invacom with polarizer..

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

It really depends on where you are and what you wish to receive.

I'm assuming that you are in the UK, so your maximum dish size without planning permission is 1m, although many members have bigger dishes and have no problems.

A 1m dish will get you quite a large selection of channels from quite a few satellites, your receivable arc will be around 130 degrees, anything else will be below the horizon. A Dreambox (see Dreambox section) would fit most of your specification, but as of yet there is no HD version.

My System: Technomate TM6800D & TM1000D+ receivers, Stab H-H90 motorised Triax 1m dish 42E to 30W. Fixed Orbital 1m on 26E, 2 x minidishes.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox.

The best cable in terms of atenuation is the 165 types:-

_http://www.cai.org.uk/downloads/CAI%20TYPE%20165%20BENCHMARK.pdf

4 dB less attenuation per 100m compared to the '125' types.

Hi, yes im in the uk! warrington cheshire. I can go bigger than a 1 meter dish no problem. Neighbors are not a problem. Will have to stop them coming round watching all these new channels infact. I think the dreambox is the way to go. I dont see any better than that, am I wrong?

so at least a 1 meter dish, how many lnbs?

My System: Dreambox 500S & 7020s. Technomate 9100 & 1500. Force frontier fixed, Raven 90 fixed, Triax 90 motorised dish. Diablo & dragon cams.

Dreambox is a great choice, recommended by many.
Only one lnb with motorised, dreambox will also support many lnbs (dependant on switches) if you decide on a fixed dish.

Regards,
Ollie
