Angry Getting Swedish Canal Digital

Hi folks,

I've been trying to get Canal Digital through Thor 2 with my 1.8m Fortec Star with no luck. I keep getting No signal showing up on the box even though the meter shows a reading. Could some body please give me a few ideas on where I could be going wrong as in could it be the dish (wrong setup), LNB, wiring? The receiver is the Canal Digital new HD box with the recorder.

I think I have the dish setup correctly, but after reading all the other posts on the Fortec Star I wish I had never brought it. I'm sure the dish is pointing in the correct direction 181 degrees magnetic (from 49.??N, -2.09W) with an elevation 0f 33 degrees.

Am I better off buying a real dish or should I play on with the Fortec Star? Apparently a 1.2m dish would be sufficient but I'm not too sure if its best to take a size larger then what is suggested as the minimum size?

Any Help would be greatly appresiated.

thanks.

Flexi

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

If you have a high signal, but you are not getting a quality reading, that is normally because you are pointing at the wrong satellite.

Ok, thats a good start, I'm pretty sure I'm looking the right way but it won't hurt moving around a bit, I'll try that in the morning, cheers.

hi, I used a compass to get my direction after changing the bearing to magnetic, so I did think I had the right direction but I'll see in the morning.

Cheers

Don't rely solely on a compass bearing, the thread will still be running in a month's time if you do.

Compass bearings are only good for general direction, use a meter, or the meters on your receiver to actually align to the satellite, it needs to be within a degree of the satellite, choose a transponder which is easily viewable, like the one with BBC Wrold on it..

Well I've had another go this morning, took the dish to th east by a few degrees & picked up What I guess was Sirius after using the strongest transponder from the list to locate it, I then started to move the dish round till I picked up a new signal using 11342 / 24501 H, & the receiver said I had a good signal although for some reason when I searched for channels it didn't find any? this was the same when I attached it to my Sky dish.

So now I'm sure I have the right direction unless somebody tells me otherwise, has anybody got any more suggestions on what could be wrong?

Did you scan one of the transponders to confirm that you were on Sirius?

If you think you are in roughly the right direction, but it won't scan any channels, then perhaps you can look at the transponder/channel lists for the adjacent satellites and test a transponder from each until you find some channels to corroborate your alignment.

Success, to a point, you were right it was the wrong satellite, not sure which one though as I found Sirius because I worked from sirius back to the signal, whatever it was. then this evening I decided to work slowly back from 5 degrees west with success , just struggle on getting the signal on some channels, the thor 3 channels, has anybody got any ideas as I've read that a 120 dish should be able pick them up. according to http://www.dishpointer.com/.

Cheers for the help
