Skew on prime focus ?

ehmmm, this is probably a silly question, but does the lnb skew angle apply to prime focus dishes ?

Yes - absolutely.

If it's a motorised dish then it should be set to zero for true north as a starter point. It won't be very different after fine adjustment.

Just out of curiosity, prime dishes are obviously round but with offset dishes, would there be any gain if dish AND lnb where skewed to the same degree ? Just curious ... as I now own a prime focus you know )) [ which might not get 2D but it will make a great sunshade for the summer ... ]

Whilst theoretically you could skew the entire dish the whole point of skewing just the LNB is so that you don't get caught up in rotating the dish! Imagine the mounting brackets you would have to use!!

If I thought I would get more signal by skweing he dish I'd bend the whole pole ... never mind the mounting brackets... It is hard living in the "fringe"

It's abit like the quest of the Englishman for some sunshine and the lengths he will go to to get it...!

Since the prime focus dish is perfectly round, I can't see it making a blind bit of difference, as the end effect would be exactly the same as you had before surely.

On an offset dish, I would have thought there would be an effect, and skewing the whole dish is precisely what a motorised system does.
