Can someone possibly tell me which of the following 3 satellites has the strongest signal and which has the weakest signal when received from southern UK:-
  • Hotbird 13.0E
  • Astra 19.2E
  • Astra 28.2E
Thanks.

My System: triax td88 motorised, Vantage x221tsci, tms-1500ci, skystar 2, diablo v2.3, zone 2 minidish - setanta

all of these are strong just use a decent sized dish 80cm etc to get the best when the weather turns bad

Thanks I currently have a Raven Gemini 70cm dish with one LNB pointing at 28.2E. In the coming weekends I will be adding 2 other LNB's and my original intention was to reposition the dish so it is centred on 19.2E then use both east and west offset brackets so the other 2 LNBs are as close to the cenre of the dish as possible in order to get the best possible signals from all 3 satellites.

If 19.2E is also the weakest of the 3 satellites then this does now seem like the best plan

My System: Technomate TM6800D & TM1000D+ receivers, Stab H-H90 motorised Triax 1m dish 42E to 30W. Fixed Orbital 1m on 26E, 2 x minidishes.DigitAlB movies. A Bigsat BS-S77CX and a Sky Dodgibox.

It would be interesting to found out how you get on gary, as I'm thinking of setting up the same system when I get round to buying the Raven gemini 70cm.

I was going to do it with just the eastern bracket with Hotbird on the focus, with 19.2E not too far off, with 28.2E being so strong, who cares where it is. That is the way I've see it in some of the other posts on here.

But I was going to get the full bracket anyway, to see if performed any better with 19.2E on the focus.

you might be better to align it to hotbird but either way it should work fine

Rolf did originally advise in another post to point the dish to Hotbird 13E and then use the eastern offset bracket with 28.2E being furthest from the centre of the dish. However, as I experienced breakup on some channels in bad weather on my old Sky minidish and the fact that the Raven Gemini gives exactly the same signal strength & quality as I was getting with the minidish then I figured it would be sensible to keep all the LNB's as close the central focal position on the dish as possible to get the the best signals I can from all 3 satellites, thus the logical option is to use 19.2E as the main focus satellite with it being the middle (and coincidentally also the weakest) of the 3 satellites.

If I get this working with a satisfactory signal & strength from all 3 satellites then I don't intend to change it so I will only be able to say if it is good or bad and not how it would compare to a setup where the main focus was on Hotbird.

I'll let you know how I get on

Robbo,

I finally finished setting this all up today and am very pleased with the results, especially as it's my first ever self-installed setup As specified before, the centre LNB is pointing to Astra 19.2E with both east and west offset brackets fitted to the Raven Gemini 70cm mesh dish, the east bracket holding the Astra 28.2E LNB and the west bracket holding the Hotbird 13.0E LNB.

I'm running one of the new Technomate 5400CI+ USB receivers and I'm getting the following Level & Quality values (today was also very overcast if that makes any difference)...

Hotbird 13.0E
Level -> 97%
Quality -> 80%

Astra 19.2E
Level -> 97%
Quality -> 97%

Astra 28.2E
Level -> 96%
Quality -> 90%

These percentages have been consistent all afternoon since the installation was completed.

I'll put some pictures in the members setup section when I get some time

Well

Congratulations gary

It's a great feeling when you get such a good result, now enjoy the fruits of your labours, It will take you all weekend to see 10 seconds of every channel you can receive.
