My System: Pace TDS470N Sky+ Receiver, Technomate TM-5400CI+ FTA Receiver, Raven Gemini 70cm Mesh Dish with East & West offset LNB brackets, 2 x MTI 0.2db Universal LNBs, MTI 0.2db Universal Quad Output LNB, Eurostar 4x1 DiSEqC Switch, Webro WF100 Cable
Vertical versus Horizontal Polarisation

The single LNBs I have for my new setup (MTI 0.2db ones) have the F-Connector coming out at a 45 degree angle when the skew is set to zero for the vertical polarisation (see attachement below). With the additional negative skew required to line up to 28.2E, the connector/cable is coming out almost horizontally from the end of the LNB (between the 8 and 9 o'clock positions).

If at all possible, my preference would actually be to have the cable coming out at more of a vertical position purely for neatness than anything else.

I know nothing about Vertical versus Horizontal polarisation but my Sky box is currently set up for Vertical polarisation. If I was to set the polarisation to Horizontal then would that mean I could turn the LNB 90 degrees clockwise to recieve the incoming signal on it's horisontal axis (with the cable coming out more vertically) or have I completely misunderstood what Vertical and Horizontal polarisation actually is?

Mmm

Not really sure what the question is....
Your Sky box is receiving both horizontal and vertical channels of that I can assure you unless it is faulty. Provided you insulate the F-connector correctly to stop the ingress of water using either the manufactured sleeve (if supplied) or self amalgamating tape then. I believe the convention is to have the connector below horizontal to allow water to drain away from the connector down the cable as opposed to down the threads and connector

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

You will be making a lot of work for yourself by trying to muck about with the polarities, easier to swap the LNBs out for a couple of Invertos, they do not have the skewed outlet.

But that would cast a shadow on your dish effectively reducing your dish size.

I still fail to see why a manufacturer would produce an lnb with such an impractical angle of output for the F-connector

I thought it was strange when I first installed one, but actually it woks quite well on some LNB holders, the LNB itself is not one of MTI's best though, I have had to return a couple of them in the recent past.

I guess I completely misunderstood what Vertical / Horizontal polarisation meant then

I bought the MTI's for 2 reasons: because they were low noise at 0.2db and because they were dark in colour so as to be less obtrusive against the black dish.

Until I got them I wasn't actually aware that the connector came out at an angle and only realised this after they were delivered. I think I'll just live with them for now and maybe replace them at a later date if I decide it really bothers me that much. If the skew was positive then they would work much better but all the skews I need to use are all negative.

I see the Inverto's have a black body so these would probably be a suitable alternative if I decide to change the MTI's.

Rolf...when you say the MTI's aren't the best quality, what issues did you experience with them? I only paid £9 each for the singles so maybe I made a mistake buying some cheapo ones which aren't actually that good

I've had three of that type fail (out of not very many), plus several quad versions and one Quattro, fail on high band, so I am not a lover of them any more.
