System setup for beginner

Hi All,
Could anyone give me advice on what I would need to receive TV from the Czech Republic (I live in Bedfordshire). I have been through many sites and have a rough idea of what I need but not 100% sure yet. I have the card which was posted to me from a friend in Czech. I will be installing it myself so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Which package are you going for, the one on 23.5 East, or 1 West?

I am assuming that your friend sent you a CS Link smart card.

Full details about channels from LyngSat:

http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/cslink.html

You need a dish pointing to Astra Astra 1D / 3A, 23.5° E
A receiver with CAM (Embedded or CI) with Cryptowork encryption support.

You will need a good quality 1.2m dish as a minimum from Bedfordshire, see this thread.

Here are the receivers I’m looking at all roughly the same price but not sure on ease off use and reliability. Any recommendations would be great. Also can anyone recommend a good make of dish and LNB?

Phoenix Apollo Satellite Receiver CI+MultiCrypt+2Slots
Technomate TM-1500 CI Super+ 1 x MultiCrypt 1 x Common Interface
Technomate TM-1600 2CI Super+ 1 x MultiCrypt 2 x Common Interface

Thanks Again
Adam

The TM 1500 seems to be the receiver of choice amongst our Technomate owning members.

A good performer at 1.2m is the Gilbertini, better still if you buy the dedicated feed and a C120 LNB.

It is the bit which collects the signal (sorry, should read Feedhorn).

They do the TM5400CI+ now, 10,000 channel storage, and USB port for PVR and 'software' update. Looks like a replacement for the 1500.

My System: Pace TDS470N Sky+ Receiver, Technomate TM-5400CI+ FTA Receiver, Raven Gemini 70cm Mesh Dish with East & West offset LNB brackets, 2 x MTI 0.2db Universal LNBs, MTI 0.2db Universal Quad Output LNB, Eurostar 4x1 DiSEqC Switch, Webro WF100 Cable

The TM-5400CI+ is a good box and is indeed designed as a replacement for the TM-1500CI+. It was only released to the market a week ago and I purposely held out for it to become available before buying a FTA receiver.

It's very user friendly and very easy to use with the added ability to record to an external USB memory stick or USB hard drive although it does require a update download from the Technomate website before this functionality will work. I can certainly recommend this box for a beginner (as I also am ).

It also has patches available as per the other Technomate 1000/1500/1600 series

Finally got the system setup, had it installed on Monday. Originally I bought the Technomate 1500 CI but that turned out to be faulty. So now I have a Technomate 5300 D+ which I will attach an external HDD to . I have an 80cm dish and the picture is perfect. Not sure what make LNB was put on but it is 0.3db.

Thanks again for all your help.

Good one mate

Did the card work straight in the receiver, and what was the card, was it the one mentioned above?
