My System: Confusing!
Much confusion with a German satellite!

Hi all, new to this forum and just hoping for some simple questions (hopefully) cleared up!

Basically my freeview box bought from germany is being far too tempermental and is costly to keep shipping back to the UK. Therefore I tried to purchase an enlglish freeview box and plug it into my german satellite (all set up correctly). However, this english freeview box has an RF in, whilst the german box was an LNB (as in the satellite connection).

I dont really want to send the english box back but will if I have to, is there any kind of LNB to RF converter?

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks very much!

Sounds like you need to get your terminology sorted out

Freeview is the DTT service delivered by the transmitter network to your aerial.

Freesat(fromsky) is the free channels delivered via satellite to your dish.

I assume you actually want the latter and have bought the former. If so a DTT box is no good to you if you actually want the free channels via satellite.

As Analoguesat has already said you are confusing up your terminologies.

In your first post you mention German satellite

A DTT receiver which uses a standard UHF aerial cannot be used to view German satellite TV unless it is a dual box of which there are are very few I understand.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

OK, let's take this back a stage, what are you trying to receive? Is it purely by satellite dish? Does the dish only point at one satellite?

OK if you are wanting the UK satellite channels as well then you are going to have to put up either a second dish or one dish with two lnb's (the bit on the arm on the dish) or go motorised.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

If you are in a FreeView DTT served area then you can just add another set top box and do it that way as well of course

Hi,
Whilst there are plenty of German channels on 19.2E, you are going to have a problem if you want English channels from the Uk.

There are only a handful on 19.2E FTA.
_http://www.flysat.com/tv-uk.php

You need to point your dish at 28.2E/28.5E for the English channels.
You may need a biger dish though, depending on what part of Germany you are set up in.

To get both satellites you will need to either put another LNB on your dish if practical, or motorise the dish.

Ahh we are getting somewhere now, so if I want a set top box that the LNB can plug into, which do I choose?

You just want a Digital satellite receiver. There is a huge selection to choose from. I have a TM1000D, it does the job for FTA channels, and does multi-sat no problems.

My System: Pace 2200 Sky Digital Box, cheapo LNB0.3db, 80cm offset dish in Germany. 1.35m Offset Dish, Pace 2600 Sky Digi Box. Invacom Twin LNB. In Spain.

go to mediamarkt in Germany, buy yourself a dish/lnb/SAT receiver and all accesorries, check out the Astra 2 dish survey on the Astra 2 forum to see what size dish you need. you will need to point the dish a bit to the left of the dish you have pointing at astra 19.2. be patient.

A bit expensive, going all the way from England to Germany just for some sat equipment....
